Chapter 505:

He was scared that he would be overwhelmed by the emotions he felt back then, develop feelings for Belinda, and become obsessed with her. Because he was sure that everything Belinda had done for him had her own motives.
Even if she had put in all her effort for him, deep down, she didn’t like him.
A man as proud as he couldn’t afford to fall for a woman who didn’t care for him. He had more self-respect than that!
Despite knowing for a while that Belinda had no feelings for him, hearing her say she didn’t want to remember those days still hurt Kristopher deeply.
Cathy, noticing the shadowy figure lurking behind the pillar, raised her eyebrows subtly. Her eyes darted around before she smiled and said, “Miss Nelson, how can you say that? The time you took care of Kris, he couldn’t even talk or move… It might have been one of the few peaceful moments during your three years together. How can you now say you want to forget it?”
“Exactly,” Maggie smirked. “Even if she looked after my brother with all her might, the first thing he asked when he woke up was for Cathy.”
She glanced at Belinda with disgust as she spoke. “You say you don’t want to remember that time. Is it because, after all the care you gave my brother, you don’t mean anything to him?”
After she finished, Maggie shifted her attention back to the woman in the wheelchair across from Belinda. “And if you’re so keen on forgetting the past, why did you bring a vegetable to my brother and Cathy’s engagement? Is this woman an honored guest tonight?”
Belinda raised an eyebrow and looked at Cathy, who stood beside Maggie. “Since you’re curious… why not let Miss Miller introduce the person in front of me?”
Maggie turned toward Cathy with a look of surprise. “Cathy, do you recognize this vegetable?”
Cathy paused, her expression filled with concern, and nodded slowly. “Yes, I do.” With a heavy sigh, she seemed to struggle with her next words. “She is my mother’s daughter with that man.”

The past misdeeds of Evelyn in her youth were well-known among Nawrin’s higher circles, Maggie and Helen included.
Exchanging a meaningful glance with Helen, Maggie forced a smile. “So, this is the sister you seldom speak of, Cathy?”
“So, it’s her,” Helen quickly chimed in. “I thought she had passed away long ago. Just recently, when I heard Cathy mention that her sister would attend the engagement party, I imagined it would be her portrait that would make an appearance. I never imagined she was still alive, albeit in a vegetative state.”
Listening to the conversation, Cathy bit her lip, her voice laced with a trace of resignation. “We rarely talk about this sister. Her very existence is a constant reminder of how our mother betrayed and abandoned my father and me.” She glanced over at Joyce, who sat motionless in her wheelchair, a faint sneer touching her lips. “But now that she’s in this state, my father and I are no longer dwelling on past sorrows. That’s why I’ve decided she should attend my engagement party tonight as my sister.”
Realizing the implication, Maggie remarked, “I hadn’t realized you actually invited her.”
Helen’s response dripped with insincerity. “Cathy, your heart is so large, allowing even this vegetable to attend your engagement. You’ve gone to great lengths for your sister… But why is she here with Belinda?”
