Chapter 576:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Craving the end of the disturbance and still half-asleep, she groped for the phone and pressed the answer button. “Hello?” she murmured, her voice rough. A brief silence followed on the other end, then Cathy’s voice erupted in a scream, “Who are you? Why do you have Kris’ phone? It’s barely after eight! Are you together right now? Did you just wake up?”
At the hospital, Cathy was propped against her bed, clutching the phone so tightly that her knuckles turned white, her body shaking with rage. “You bitch! How dare you steal my man! You…”
The angry accusations hurled from the phone jolted Belinda fully awake. She quickly ended the call and set the phone down.
Rubbing her temple weakly, she felt overwhelmed by fatigue, unable to think clearly. In her attempt to maintain the ruse of her “death,” she had turned off her regular phone and stashed it away, keeping only an old phone nearby for occasional calls to Allen. She questioned her carelessness in answering Kristopher’s phone.
As she pondered, she instinctively glanced toward Kristopher. The man, typically vigilant, was now deeply asleep, his breathing even and calm. This sight somewhat surprised her.
Due to a blindness incident five years ago and a vegetative state episode three years prior, Kristopher had grown accustomed to light sleeping. In the past, the slightest noise would wake him. Yet now, despite the loud ring and Cathy’s sharp screams, he hadn’t stirred.
The phone rang once more. It was Cathy again.
After a brief pause, Belinda picked up the phone, approached Kristopher, and gently nudged his shoulder. “It’s Miss Miller’s call,” she informed him. Kristopher’s eyes flickered open. He took the phone with a lazy gesture and answered, “Cathy.”
“Kris!” Cathy’s voice was laden with distress. “I just called you, and a woman picked up! Who is she? Why are you with her so early in the morning? She sounded like she had just woken up.” Her words were tinged with sobs. “Do you have another woman?”

As Cathy spoke, Kristopher glanced at Belinda, who gave an awkward smile, turned around, and carried Fluffy out of the master bedroom.
As Belinda turned the doorknob and stepped through the door, Kristopher’s soothing, affectionate voice followed her. “The maid was cleaning and accidentally picked up the phone. How could there be another woman? If it’ll make you feel better, I’ll start staying at the hospital with you from today, okay?”
His overly sweet words sent a wave of nausea through Belinda. With pursed lips, she settled onto the living room sofa, clutching Fluffy close. She recalled her conversation with Kristopher in this very room the previous night, explaining how Cathy was feigning her illness. Yet, not even a full day later, he was offering to stay by Cathy’s side at the hospital indefinitely.
The stark contrast made her earlier belief—that Kristopher would question and investigate Cathy—seem like a naive joke.
Belinda sat Fluffy down on the sofa, quickly tidied herself, and went to the kitchen to make breakfast.
As she toasted the bread, she paused briefly and then decided to make an extra slice.
Once everything was ready, she brought the tray to the dining room to serve breakfast, just as Kristopher strolled down from upstairs.
