Chapter 2262:

These words were not appropriate for Joann to mention in Elva’s presence.
She simply accompanied Elva to visit Cassius.
Cassius was seriously ill and, although the doctor recommended chemotherapy, he refused it. He insisted that, at his age, he preferred to avoid unnecessary pain and die with dignity.
Elva brought little Samuel to Cassius, who lay in the recliner with his eyes closed.
Hearing the noise, Cassius opened his eyes and exclaimed, “You’re back!”.
Elva approached Cassius, holding little Samuel.
Gently, she took Cassius’ hand and whispered, “Yes, Grandpa.
I’m back. I won’t be working for the time being, so I can be here to take care of you.”
Learning of his condition from Joann, Elva was determined to persuade him to accept therapy.
Cassius was well aware of her intentions and smiled, deepening the wrinkles. “Get on with your work. Young people should go out and work. Don’t stay cooped up at home for my sake. It’s too boring.”
Elva took the warm towel held out by the maid and gently dried Cassius’ face. She explained, “I’m not really busy with work. I will help Luis at home. He is the CEO of the Mendez Group and his decisions impact the livelihoods of thousands of people. He can’t afford to make mistakes.”
Despite Elva’s gentle care, Cassius’ facial muscles continued to quiver.
After a moment, he gently took Elva’s hand and sighed. “I apologize on behalf of Luis, for what happened between the two of you in the past.”
Elva shook her head and admitted, “I made mistakes back then, too.
She would only confess it to Cassius, never in front of Luis.
Cassius knew this about her and thought she was truly a sensible girl.
He looked at Joann.
Joann’s heart was moved and she couldn’t help but wipe away her tears. She had hoped that Elva could convince Cassius to seek treatment, but it was clear that he was unwilling.
The two women talked well into the night.
After Joann left, Elva leaned back against the bedside and gently caressed Samuel’s face as she reflected on the day’s events.
It wasn’t until Luis’ phone call that she realized she hadn’t had a minute to think about him that day.
