Chapter 460:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Remi gasped. I stared at her. “What did that feel like?”
She smiled. “Like something woke up.”
I traced another rune, and the light brightened. Our bond pulsed between us, warm and deep, and for once there was no darkness fighting against it. I kissed her hand. “You’re beautiful.”
She smiled, and I traced another glowing line. Then I looked at her, and something inside me shifted. I wanted more than survival. I wanted years and mornings. I wanted children running through a home that belonged to us. I wanted her to have something of me that would remain even if one day I wasn’t there.
“Let’s have pups.”
She blinked. “What?”
I smiled. “Little pups.”
Her mouth fell open. “Nero.”
“I want you to carry my babies.”
Her expression softened for half a second. Then I made the mistake of saying what had been sitting at the back of my mind.
“Because something tells me I might not survive everything that’s coming.”

Her face changed immediately. “Don’t say that.”
“I need you to understand.”
“No. You need to stop.” She stood, and I reached for her.
She pulled away. “You finally get your life back, and you’re already talking about dying?”
“I’m being realistic.”
“No.” Her eyes filled with anger. “You’re preparing me to lose you.”
I stood too. “Remi.”
She shook her head. “You don’t get to decide that for me.”
She turned and stormed toward the door. “Remi, wait.”
She opened it, and cold air rushed into the cabin. I followed her. “Remi!”
She stepped outside and then stopped so suddenly that I nearly walked into her. Someone was standing near the cabin: a woman carrying a bag, looking exhausted.
Remi stared at her. “What the hell are you doing here?”
The woman slowly lifted her head. Caya.
My body went tense. “Caya?”
She looked at me, then at Remi. “I need to talk to you.”
Remi folded her arms. “How long have you been standing there?”
Caya hesitated. “Long enough.”
Remi’s face went bright red, and I raised an eyebrow. Caya quickly looked away. “I wasn’t trying to listen.”
“That isn’t what I asked,” Remi said.
I stepped forward. “Why are you here?”
She tightened her grip on the bag. “I’m coming with you. To Moonstone.”
“Why?”
Her eyes hardened. “To kill the Chimera.”
I stared at her. “What happened?”
Caya looked at me for a long moment. “You may have been a hero to the mining town, Nero.” Her voice turned colder. “But you caused damage too.”
My expression hardened. “What damage?”
Her fingers tightened around the bag. “You destroyed one of their operations and freed the prisoners. You thought you were saving them.” She stepped closer. “You didn’t realize what you had just started.”
My stomach tightened. “What happened?”
“Drift and Sable are paying for it.”
Remi POV
“What do you mean, Drift and Sable are paying for it?”
