Chapter 193:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
I run my hands down the door to get a feel for it, since I can’t see it. The door is old, I can tell from the peeling paint and the splinters. I think I could easily kick it down, but that plan immediately falls apart when I run my hands over the multiple locks and deadbolts. Fuck, even a locksmith or master thief would need twenty minutes to get through all these locks, and I’m neither of those. I’m going to have to find another way out of here.
I squat down and peer through the keyhole to see if I can spot anything outside, but I can’t. All I see is a single white bulb and more stairs leading up to another door, some clothes, a washer and dryer, and other useless things that won’t help me. It’s clear now—I’m looking at the basement.
I must’ve missed it before, but there’s no way this house has two bloody basements.
Since I won’t be getting out of here anytime soon, I turn around and sit down on the top stair. I do my best to use the dim light coming through the door to make sense of the room I’m in—trying to figure out exactly what’s here and if there’s anything I can use as a weapon.
I don’t know if it was sheer luck or if someone up there is watching over me, but as the sun began to set, it brought more light into the room through a tiny window I hadn’t noticed before.
Lena’s POV
I watched as the light slowly filled the room until, eventually, it was bright enough for me to make out everything around me. The window the light was streaming in from was high up, and if I hadn’t been drugged and injected with wolfsbane, I could have easily made my way up there, broken the bars, and escaped. But that’s not going to happen today. I can feel how weak the wolfsbane has made me. I can’t even feel my wolf, but I know she’s still there. I just need to bide my time and do everything I can to avoid being drugged again, though I don’t know how I’ll stop the wolfsbane injections.
I’ve heard that some wolves build a tolerance to wolfsbane, but that takes years. There’s no way I’ll have that long, because I refuse to stay down here for years.
With the light streaming in, I could see everything clearly. I was definitely in a basement, and it looked completely different from the one above. It was clear that they hadn’t put any thought into this room. There were three bunk beds pushed against the walls—two of them had white bedsheets, while the others were bare. The mattresses looked worn, like they’d seen better days.
There was a table in the center of the room with three mismatched chairs around it, a deck of cards on top, and what looked like a set-up Monopoly board.

I got up from the stairs and made my way deeper into the room. It was obvious that someone, or maybe more than one person, stayed down here. From the two made-up beds and the old vanity, it seemed that they were accustomed to being here. The vanity was worn down but still functional, with a curling iron and other hair and makeup tools scattered across it.
This probably means I won’t be alone down here for long. Whoever stays down here, or whoever they keep down here, will be back soon, and hopefully, I’ll be able to find out where we are and what goes on in this house from them. All I’ve been able to piece together from what both Lex and Adam have said is that Gina is in charge, and she’s here to teach me manners, respect, and how to be a good queen. But neither of them ever explained how she plans to do that.
I know the sunlight streaming into the room won’t last long, so I begin my search for a weapon—anything I can use to defend myself. But after…
Minutes of searching passed, but I found nothing. What was I thinking? It’s not like they would have left weapons lying around for me to find.
Suddenly, a wave of dizziness washes over me. My body is still struggling to fight off the effects of the sedative. I make my way over to the lower bunk bed that’s made up and lie down. I don’t plan on sleeping, but the next thing I know, my eyes close, and I can’t fight it.
“Hey! Princess! Get up!” I hear someone shout, but it sounds so far away. The incessant poking in my side forces me to open my eyes, only to be met with Adam’s disgusting grin and his rotten teeth. Realization hits me. I’m not back at the cabin with my kids. No, I’m down in the basement of a house in the middle of nowhere. I must have fallen asleep, and now I’m being leered at by one of the men who took me and brought me here.
“I need to pee,” I tell him.
