Chapter 536:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
The air was saturated with the smell of smoke from the explosion. It blurred my vision. I didn’t see the scene clearly until the smoke cleared.
The cliff rose so high above the sea that just looking at the height of the drop made me feel dizzy. Below were the choppy, turbulent waves of the sea.
There was no sign of Ady anywhere. Everyone was standing on the edge of the cliff now.
Timmy came out of nowhere with a gun in his hand. It looked like he was the one who had just fired the gun. When Luther’s henchmen saw that their leader was no more, they no longer had any intention of defending themselves.
Alvaro knelt at the edge of the cliff, his bleeding hand on his knee. He looked at the bottom of the cliff, shocked and grief-stricken.
A policeman asked him to go to the hospital to have his finger reattached.
Alvaro, however, insisted on going with the police to look for Ady. I followed them down the cliff and reached the rocks at the bottom. The wind was whipping hard. The waves were pounding violently against the rocks.
There seemed to be the smell of blood in the sea wind, mixed with the smell of fish. There were shreds of burnt clothing all over the area. I also saw a broken arm. It was Luther’s.
We all looked around urgently, but we couldn’t find Ady.
By this time, Alvaro had recovered from the pain of his wound. He stood on a rock and looked out to sea motionless.
The police and Timmy were looking for Ady in the water. Suddenly, Alvaro jumped headfirst into the sea.
“Alvaro!” I shouted desperately after him.
His hand was badly injured and the sea was freezing. How could he resist in those conditions? But he plunged into the depths of the sea fairly quickly.
The waves were completely upheaved. He looked out to sea, overwhelmed with anxiety. The policemen returned without finding anything. But Alvaro had not yet resurfaced.
After a while, he poked his head out of the sea. He swam to shore. Then he sat down on the shore and looked out into the open sea. He looked completely exhausted.
He was calm, exceptionally calm. It seemed that the more pain he felt, the calmer he became. As he suppressed his pain and felt guilty about everything, he lost consciousness.

His wound had not been treated in time and he was soaked from his long immersion in the cold sea. When they sent him to the hospital, they discovered he had a high fever.
I stayed with him and did not leave his side. He was unconscious because of the fever his body was fighting. His body moved from time to time and sometimes he uttered a few words in his sleep.
The hand with the cut little finger trembled from time to time. It must have been excruciatingly painful.
He used to be a great joker. Sometimes he acted like a hooligan to amuse himself. It was the first time I had seen him so weak and frail. I felt very sorry for him when I saw him involuntarily writhing in a coma. He was in agony, and I was a fellow sufferer.
When he awoke, it was already completely dark. He opened his empty eyes and no one could know what he was thinking.
I told him with a great sense of guilt: “I’m sorry. This is all my fault…”
With a pale face, he looked at me and shook his head slightly with what little strength he could muster.
“It’s all my fault.”
When she raised her hand, she saw the thick gauze covering it. For a moment, he looked a little confused. It took him a while to remember that his finger had been cut off.
“I’m so sorry about your finger!”.
At that moment, I didn’t know what to say except to apologize.
He slowly lowered his hand and let out a slight chuckle. “It doesn’t matter if one of the ten fingers is gone. Besides, it’s worth it. Luther is no more,” he said, looking on the bright side.
But Ady also paid a heavy price with her life. Her body was still missing. The police had searched for her for a long time, but still couldn’t find her. So we were sure she had died.
Because I was so overwhelmed by the pang of guilt, I was finally able to break out of the grief that enveloped me and, at last, I was able to accept that Derek had passed away.
When it came to things that could not be changed, I could only accept the truth. A few days after Alvaro was released from the hospital, a strange man called the house and said he was a lawyer for Dere International.
