Chapter 538:.
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
After the meeting, Lean was still sitting there. He wasn’t showing much joy about the victory.
I said, “Lean, you and Derek have the same last name. It’s easy to start a company, but it’s very hard to maintain it. I have given Dere International to you. I hope you can run it with great efficiency and not fail it.”
When Lean raised his head, his eyes were slightly bloodshot. He pursed his lips for some time, before finishing by saying, “Thank you, Eveline, Aaron.”
The slightest trace of relief surfaced in my mind.
“That’s the first time you’ve ever thanked me so sincerely.”
With a guilty expression on his face, Lean said, “I must admit that I’ve been unreasonable in the past, and I’ve done a lot of incredibly stupid things. Please forgive me.” I smiled weakly.
“If I had ever hated you, I wouldn’t have supported you today.”
Lean nodded, took a deep, calming breath, as if he had just made an important decision. “I won’t let you or Derek down,” he assured me.
I left the conference room with Aaron. As I walked to the elevator, I looked around the familiar office, lost in my own thoughts.
“Mr. Sullivan,” a voice said.
When I heard someone speak, I was quite surprised.
The words “Mr. Sullivan” made my heart skip a beat and jump straight to my throat. I turned around and saw Lean walking in my direction.
Lean had become the current Mr. Sullivan of this company, how could I have forgotten him already?
Perhaps my excitement and disappointment were written all over my face, but Lean came up to me and said, “Eveline, I am so sorry for your loss.”
I still retained a small hopeful fantasy in the bottom of my heart.
What if Derek suddenly appeared in front of me one day? It was snowing when I left the Dere International offices.
Aaron said to me encouragingly, “Eveline, be strong.”

I nodded and affirmed, “I will be.”
I would be strong, but I would also be sad at the same time. I would miss Derek so much that I would never be able to forget the memory of him.
It was going to be another year. I still remembered what he said on the first New Year’s Eve we had spent together. He said that, from then on, he would spend New Year’s Eve with me every year.
Then someone appeared in front of me.
I put down my glass with trembling hands. My eyesight was blurred and I couldn’t control my emotions. I threw myself into her arms and clung to her tightly. “Lulu!
“I’ve missed you so much.” Louise laughed appreciatively. “If you hug me and cry like that, others will suspect that we are a couple. I am would be the unfaithful woman.”
She still liked to joke, as she had always done. I looked up from her arms, my eyes filled with tears. I looked at her with great compassion. She was much thinner and more emaciated than before. There were even faint crow’s feet showing at the corners of her eyes. It was gratifying that her personality had not changed at all.
“Lulu,” I said softly.
It had been a long time since I had uttered her nickname. I thought I would never get the chance to utter it again. But suddenly she appeared in front of me. Just uttering his name made my heart ache.
Tears rolled down my cheeks of their own volition.
He pinched my cheek and said, “Silly girl.”
