Chapter 545:.
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
I held Derek, but I couldn’t hold him steady. Just then, several people came to support him. It was Timmy, along with two doctors in white coats.
Others had already brought a wide chair, which they used to help Derek sit up. They then left without a word.
I squatted down in front of him, looking at his legs.
“What happened to your legs?”
He took my hand, helped me up and sat me down with him. Then he put his arm around my shoulders.
“Even if I didn’t have legs, I’d crawl up here just so I could celebrate New Year’s Eve with you,” he said.
What a joke! That’s what I told myself, but deep down I liked it.
Thank God, it was just a joke!
I leaned on his shoulder, not asking any more questions. As long as he was by my side, I felt happy. It didn’t even matter if the world was destroyed the next second. We hugged each other in silence, watching the beautiful fireworks that enveloped the night sky and listening to the New Year’s chimes.
When the new year finally came, it broke our silence.
“Eveline, from the bottom of my heart, I love you.” The sound of his husky voice was music to my ears.
I looked into his eyes, into his soul. He stared back at me and I stared back at him. That moment was so perfect that I felt satisfied, even if we only looked at each other in silence.
“I love you too. I love you very much.” I cupped his face with my hands and kissed him. He responded to my kiss gently.
A salty, bitter taste remained in our kiss because of our tears. We had felt pain and both of us desperately longed to see each other.
Suddenly, he groaned, causing me to let go. When I saw the pain on his face, I became nervous.
“What’s wrong with you?”
He pressed his hand to his chest, doing his best to smile at me.

“You don’t need to be nervous. I’m so happy to finally have you by my side.”
It was snowing heavily today, but she was wearing fairly thin clothes. I could see blood coming out of her chest.
Startled, I shouted, “Timmy!”.
At the sound of my voice, Timmy came running over along with the medics. The doctors immediately placed Derek on the stretcher. They then hooked him up to the life support machine and carried him downstairs.
I was so scared that I followed him at a brisk pace. Occasionally, I would look at Derek’s pale face as he lay on the stretcher.
I got into their car and went with them to the military hospital.
Once there, they stretchered him off to the emergency room. While waiting outside the ER, Timmy told me that Derek was seriously injured and had been in a coma all this time. He hadn’t told me because even the doctors believed there was little hope that Derek would ever wake up again.
But a few hours ago, Derek suddenly woke up and asked what day it was. Upon learning that it was New Year’s Eve, he insisted on putting on a suit and going to the company rooftop. Timmy and the others knew him well and could do nothing to change his mind. So they had no choice but to do as he said and followed him to the roof.
As I listened to Timmy’s story, tears came to my eyes. Even when his life hung in the balance, Derek never forgot his promise.
I clung tightly to the emergency room door. Right now, I couldn’t describe how I felt. I was so scared for him.
I had already lost Derek once. I didn’t want to lose him again. Two long, agonizing hours later, the door finally opened.
When I saw the doctors come out, I immediately grabbed the arm of one of them.
“Doctor, how is he?” God knew how scared and confused I was at that moment. I expected an answer, but at the same time I was afraid to hear it.
The doctor took off his mask and smiled in relief.
“It’s a miracle! His vitals are stable and within normal limits. Mr. Sullivan is out of danger.”
