Chapter 187:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Kelly’s POV
We sent Pierce’s family and our show to the airport the night after our wedding. I didn’t know why my dad, or Pierce’s father, wanted to leave so suddenly. It was probably because of the mess, but I didn’t ask. I trust him.
“Bye, mommy. Bye, daddy,” Snow said, so happy, as she waved at us. Pierce’s arm was wrapped around my waist, his hand resting gently against my stomach.
Dad was carrying Snow as they entered the airport terminal. I already felt the sadness creeping in, just thinking about my daughter sleeping without me. But I knew this was for the best. I couldn’t keep her by my side when there was a threat to our lives.
I felt Pierce kiss my hair after they disappeared from sight.
“We’ll pick her up once this is over,” he whispered.
Actually, he wanted me to leave too. He said it would be safer for me and the baby in my stomach if we went to another country, but I didn’t want to leave him behind. Besides, the enemy is my uncle. I have to bring him down on my own, somehow finding justice for my mother’s death.
“Let’s go,” I said to Pierce after I had prepared myself. We were heading to Emily’s condo tonight to talk about what happened.
Pierce drove silently, and I sat quietly in the passenger seat. His hand either rested on mine or on the gearstick. I was thinking of a way to end this. I couldn’t just attack Connor Foster. I needed him to make the first move, because that was the only way we could catch him off guard. He was smart, just like my mom, so I didn’t think he’d allow me to uncover the skeletons he’s been hiding. I needed to find that closet first, to provoke him into opening it for me. And because of what Emily had done, I knew Connor Foster would come after us now.
When we reached Emily’s condo, I was shocked to see unfamiliar men in black suits standing guard. They had earpieces in their ears, and it hit me that these must be Emily’s bodyguards.
I found my good friend sitting on the couch, waiting for us. I immediately rushed over and hugged her. I felt her stiffen, but I tightened my embrace and squeezed my eyes shut. “What have you done?”
She shook her head and pulled away from the hug. She looked at me, holding my hand, before her gaze shifted to Pierce, who stood behind me.

She sucked in a breath and then met my eyes again. “I’m sorry. I was… impulsive.”
I pulled her to sit down. “Were you hurt? What happened? How did you find him?”
“I found him in a secluded place, Kelly. The guards watching over him are all dead. We… killed them.”
My lips parted in shock, and my eyes wandered over her body. “How about you? Were you hurt?”
“No, I wasn’t. I have men to protect me, Kelly. It was… Matt who got hurt. He… protected me when I was almost shot. I… I was so scared.”
“How is he?”
H-He’s in the bedroom.
Her voice cracked. “He got shot in the stomach.”
My forehead creased. “Why didn’t you bring him to the hospital?”
She shook her head. “My men used to be part of an illegal organization, Kelly. They can’t be exposed to the authorities. Besides, I don’t trust the police.”
I pressed my lips together and swallowed. “I’m going to check on Matt.”
She nodded. “He’s already been checked by a doctor I called here. The bullet has been removed, but he’s still in danger.”
I nodded and left her in the living area. I went straight to Emily’s bedroom and saw my cousin there, pale and asleep, discomfort written on his face.
I walked toward him and slowly sat in the chair beside the bed. I couldn’t believe I was seeing him like this. What happened to him? He’d been missing for a few days. Did his own father do this to him?
A heavy burden settled in my chest as I watched him. He’s my cousin, Connor Foster’s son, and if he was the one behind this, there would be no redemption for him. He would be the most evil person in the world. No doubt.
Pierce’s POV
“You didn’t give her the memory card?” Emily asked me after Kelly entered the bedroom where her cousin was.
I walked toward her and placed the memory card on the coffee table in front of her before sitting on the couch where Kelly had been earlier.
Emily’s eyes watched me sharply. “What if I died today? What would you do? Would you still refuse to give it to her?”
“If you die today, my wife will blame herself for not being able to stop you. Especially since you only wanted to save her cousin.”
Emily clenched her jaw. “Connor Foster is the one who did this. Matt told me his own father abducted him and imprisoned him because he discovered all the horrible things he’s done. I can’t believe he did this to his son.”
I balled my fists. “Are you willing to team up with me, Emily?”
Her forehead furrowed as she stared at me. “What do you mean?”
“Connor Foster, Attorney Lee, and the officer in charge of Kelly’s shooting case—they’re all our enemies.”
Her lips parted. “What do you mean, the officer? Are you saying he’s connected to Connor Foster and Attorney Lee?”
I shrugged. “There’s a big possibility. I don’t know what the connection is, but I don’t think it’s about money since the officer comes from a wealthy family.”
Emily squeezed her eyes shut and nodded. “We’ll help. I’ll use my father’s resources.”
I sighed in relief and nodded. “Thanks, Emily.”
“I’m doing this for Kelly and Matt.”
I nodded and extended my arm to shake her hand. “For the alliance.”
She stared at my hand for a few seconds before accepting it and shaking it. “For the alliance.”
“What alliance?”
I immediately turned in the direction of the voice. Standing a few meters away from us was Kelly, her forehead creased in confusion. I wasn’t sure what she was planning, but whatever it was, I would support her and The Alliance, as long as she allowed me to be involved in her plans.
