Chapter 188:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Kelly’s POV
Pierce explained what he wanted to happen. He was asking for Emily’s help, and Emily would use her father’s resources. I didn’t understand why she would do this, especially when she hated her father’s illegal business so much. But when I saw the way Emily stared at Matt, who was still sleeping in her bedroom, I remembered how she had indirectly confessed her feelings for my cousin.
“Klay is taking down all the big leaders in his organization. Of the bosses, my father is one of them, actually. And from the information my men gathered, there are only three big bosses left.”
I nodded as Emily explained everything she had discovered.
“How many bosses are there?” Pierce asked.
“Seven bosses. My father, his biological father, some businessmen, and an unknown politician.”
“Do you think we can team up with Klay?” Emily asked. I figured she was directing the question to me when Pierce turned to look at me.
My forehead creased. “Why would we team up with him?”
“He has resources, Kelly. And look at him—taking down the bosses one by one by himself.”
I swallowed hard. “I doubt he’d cooperate.”
“He will,” Pierce said, staring at me before he held my hand. “He will cooperate, Kels. If it’s for your safety, he will.”
I stared at him. “Do you trust him?”

“I’d rather trust him than trust anyone else.”
I sighed and slowly nodded. “I… have his contact number.”
“Give me his contact. I’ll call him myself later,” Emily said.
I was about to nod when I heard a groan and footsteps behind me. I looked back and saw Matt, frowning, looking at Emily.
“Who are you going to call?” Matt asked, his eyes sharp.
Emily walked towards him and gently held his arm. “Why did you get up? You still need to rest.”
“You’re gonna call your husband?” Bitterness and anger were audible in his voice.
My lips parted. He knows.
“I’m not calling him for my own benefit, Matt. This is for us. I want this mess to end so we can finally live a peaceful life.”
Matt’s eyes immediately softened as he stared at Emily. “Does that peaceful life include me?”
“Do you want to be part of my life?”
“Hell yes! I didn’t catch a bullet for you to die without building a family with you. I would only die when I’m old and gray, Emily, with you, our future children, and grandchildren.”
I pulled myself up as a smile curved on my lips. The hope, dream, and devotion were visible in Matt’s eyes.
I couldn’t help but smile while watching them.
Evidence… Finally, a happy ending for Emily. I had been praying for her happiness, and I guess this was it.
I grabbed Pierce’s hand and pulled him toward the guest room where I used to sleep with Snow.
I locked the door, and when I faced Pierce again, there was a hint of naughtiness twinkling in his eyes.
I chuckled and pinched his side. “Don’t look at me like that. We’re not making love here.”
He sat on the bed and signaled me to come closer. I walked toward him, and he immediately pulled me to sit on his lap. He wrapped his arms around my waist as his lips started planting feather kisses on my shoulder and the side of my neck.
“Pierce…”
“Hmm?”
“What did you talk about with Klay when I was in the hospital?”
“Just…”
I looked at him when he paused and saw him staring at my face. His eyes were so gentle as he tucked my hair behind my ear.
“Just… what?” I asked, growing impatient.
“Some man-to-man talk.”
“About me?”
He nodded. “Yes.”
I smiled. “Okay. I won’t ask about that again, but—”
“SHE’S JUST MANIPULATING YOU, MATT!”
My forehead creased when I heard that familiar voice. I immediately went out of the guest room. Pierce followed me, and we found Matt, Mason, and Emily arguing in the living area.
“Just go, Mason. You don’t know anything, so—”
“I know everything now, Matt! I know, but you’re choosing that woman over your own family!”
“Emily is my family, Mason. She became my family, so I’m gonna fight for us!”
“You’re the one who’s crazy! If you already know the truth, then why are you still siding with Dad?”
Mason’s eyes sharpened even more as he clenched his jaw. “Because he’s protecting our family—”
“Protecting from what? From the truth? Huh? Tell me, Mason. What did he say to you? Did he tell you that I got shot because of Kelly and Emily? Didn’t he mention how he kept me in a cell for a few days?”
Mason’s forehead creased. “What the hell are you talking about? Dad said you wanted to elope with that woman, and he just tried to stop you.”
Matt’s sarcastic laugh echoed through the living area. “Come on, Mason! I don’t need to elope with her because I can certainly protect her and fight for her.”
“Just come with me, Matt. She’s no good for you—”
“Go back to Dad and ask him about the plate number of the car that hit and ran over Kelly’s mother. He’ll go insane if you tell him you’re going to see his true colors.”
My lips parted, and my heart ached. My mom was… hit and run over?
