Chapter 192:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Kelly’s POV
I was sitting in front of Klay, with Pierce beside me. We were in our house, and we had called Klay here to discuss what we needed to do. A heavy silence hung in the air. There were so many things running through my mind. I felt awkward. I had gotten used to lashing out at Klay whenever I saw him, and now, after everything that had happened, seeing him again felt strange.
Pierce cleared his throat. “We need your help.”
Pierce had always been ambitious and proud, but he knew when to swallow his pride, and that was one of the traits I liked about him. He knew what to say and when to say it, especially now that he had matured enough to understand every point of view in a situation.
Klay’s gaze lingered on me for a few seconds before he turned to Pierce. “I’m willing to do anything.”
“Connor Foster,” Pierce began, letting out a sigh. “After everything that’s happened, I know he’ll plot something against Kelly.”
Klay’s forehead creased. “Do you know who Connor Foster is? Aside from being one of the most cunning business tycoons, he’s an inactive member of the triad.”
My forehead furrowed. “The triad?”
He nodded. “The illegal organization I belong to. My father’s mafia organization was protected and funded by the triad. It’s a higher-level organization made up of powerful people from all over the world.”
I swallowed hard. “And… Connor Foster is a member?”
“An inactive member,” Klay clarified. “That’s why I couldn’t find evidence to turn him over to the authorities. He wasn’t active, so he wasn’t seen at any of the illegal meetings.”
I sucked in a breath and looked at Pierce. So, staying quiet until now had been the right choice for us. I hadn’t known this. I had dug so hard, but I didn’t know this part of the truth… or maybe that’s what Luke uncovered, which is why he was killed, and no one paid for it.

“He’ll need the triad’s help now,” Pierce said seriously. “He’s angry, so he’ll plot something to harm Kelly. He’ll let his guard down because his family is falling apart.”
I nodded. “He’s right. His sons are slowly drifting away. He won’t stand for that, so he’ll find a way to make them turn their backs on me. He might… frame me for something.”
“Let him frame you,” Klay said, glancing at Pierce. “We’ll make it look like he’s succeeding, and when he finally thinks he’s winning, we’ll drop the bomb on him.”
“Won’t that be dangerous for Kelly? She’s pregnant, Carver.”
Klay’s lips parted as he looked at me, then swallowed hard. He cleared his throat and sighed before slowly nodding.
“T-Then… keep them safe.”
Pierce looked at me, his eyes filled with worry. I nodded at him because I trusted that he would keep me safe.
After the brief meeting with Klay, he left immediately. I tried to convince him to stay, even just for the sake of our past, since he had taken care of me when I was young and naive. He had saved me before and treated me with care. I still valued the good memories we shared, but I admit they couldn’t erase the bad things he had done.
Klay insisted on leaving, leaving Pierce and me alone in the house. The guards were scattered everywhere, so I knew we were safe. Even Ana, Yara, and Mary had their own guards, sent by Pierce.
I lay on the bed beside Pierce after taking a quick bath. He immediately wrapped his arms around my waist and buried his face in my neck. I smiled as I rested my leg on his and hugged him like a baby.
“Goodnight, mommy, and our baby,” he whispered, kissing my hair.
I smiled and snuggled closer into his chest. “Goodnight, daddy.”
We slept peacefully that night. Despite the chaos surrounding us, and the threats on our lives—especially mine—I found myself sleeping soundly in Pierce’s arms. Probably because I knew Klay was around, and he would keep me safe no matter what. He and my husband would.
The next day, my peaceful sleep was interrupted by a loud bang on the door. Pierce, who had been sleeping beside me, immediately sat up and went to the door.
“Sir, Emily is missing.”
The bad news jolted me awake. I immediately got out of bed and stood in front of Pierce by the door.
“What do you mean?”
The guard looked down. “I apologize, Mrs. Anderson. It was reported that she sneaked out last night while everyone was sleeping. She… uh… put Mr. Matt Foster to sleep before she escaped.”
I palmed my forehead and sucked in a breath. Where did she go?
I quickly took a bath before Pierce and I left to search for Emily. I also called Klay for help.
[She doesn’t remember?] Klay asked while I sat in the passenger seat, talking to him on the phone. Pierce was beside me, driving and constantly scanning the surroundings.
“She only remembers her past. Uhm… she mentioned her dead fiancé.”
I heard Klay sigh before he responded. [Go home and rest. I think I know where she is.]
Hope filled my heart. “Really?”
Pierce glanced at me, and I smiled at him.
[Yes, I’ll go to her now and bring her back to the hospital. Just go home. It’s not safe for you to be out, even with bodyguards and Anderson by your side.]
“Okay. Update me again.”
After the call, I immediately told Pierce what I had discussed with Klay. He was relieved, and we decided to head back home. However, the tire of the car we were riding in suddenly exploded. I panicked and screamed in fear. The car almost rolled over if not for another car in front of us, blocking our way. The emergency airbag did its job well, as I didn’t feel any pain after the car stopped. I realized the car that blocked us was the one our guards were using. Another car stopped behind ours, and it was another set of bodyguards.
“Kelly, are you okay?” Pierce immediately cupped my cheeks.
I nodded. “Yes—AH!” I screamed and ducked when a bullet went through the windshield and lodged itself in the headrest of the driver’s seat.
My eyes widened as I looked at Pierce, and he ducked down with me, covering my body with his.
Chaos. I grabbed his shirt, pulling him down with me. “Pierce!”
“I’m fine.”
I shook my head and looked around. I saw our bodyguards outside, searching for the shooter. “AT THE BUILDING ROOFTOP!” one of the guards shouted, and half of them started chasing the shooter. “Sir, ma’am, are you alright?”
Pierce opened the door of the passenger seat. I was still scared, but I got out too. Pierce grabbed my wrist and hid me between the car and himself.
He looked down at me. “Are you really okay? Were you hurt? The baby?”
He caressed my stomach, and for some reason, the warmth of his palm calmed me.
“We’re okay.”
He sighed and nodded. “If they catch the shooter, we’re not going to turn him in to the police. I’ll have my men interrogate him.”
I nodded. That was the best thing to do, because even the law couldn’t be trusted anymore.
