Chapter 193:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Klay’s POV
I was driving to the place where I could find Emily when one of my men called. I had sent some of my people to guard Kelly from the shadows. I knew she wouldn’t like it, but I had to do it. I had been watching her for quite some time now. This wasn’t just to keep her safe, but to keep me sane. I needed to know what she was doing every day so I could sleep peacefully at night. Knowing that she was happy and content was the only reason I had for watching her. I was fine with that.
[Sir, Miss Kelly was ambushed.]
The loud screech of my car was the result of my sudden braking. I gritted my teeth and grabbed my phone from the dashboard.

“What did you say?”
[They were on their way home when someone shot their car’s tire. She’s safe, but her guards are still chasing the shooter.]
I clenched my jaw and, without thinking twice, I maneuvered the car and made a U-turn.
It’s Kelly, so no matter where I’m going or how important my destination is, I will always turn around and run back to her. I will always choose her, no matter how many times she doesn’t choose me.
I went straight to Anderson’s mansion after receiving confirmation from one of my men that they were home safely. Kelly was sitting on the couch, staring at Pierce Anderson when I entered their house.
I swallowed hard and endured the pain in my heart as I started walking toward them.
“Klay! What are you doing here? Did you find Emily?”
“Are you okay?” I asked, instead of answering her.
She immediately nodded. “Yes. Where’s Emily?”
I clenched my jaw. “I rushed back here as soon as I heard what happened.”
Her eyes widened. “What? What about Emily?”
“I’ll go back later to find her.”
“She doesn’t remember her present, Klay! What if Connor’s men find her? She’s in danger!”
“I’ll find her later—”
“You can’t do this! She’s your wife—”
“I don’t care who she is in my life, Kelly. My only mission in this life is to protect you, and no matter what happens, it will always be that way. You are at the top of my priorities, and I’m sorry that I always choose you over anything or anyone!”
I didn’t mean to tell her this way, but I couldn’t stop myself. I wanted her to know that she was always my priority. I would find Emily and save her if she were in danger. I’d even give my life, because I did her wrong before. But if I had to choose between them, I’d always choose her. Without hesitation. I would choose her, and nothing could change my mind.
Kelly shook her head, disappointed. I had disappointed her countless times already, but it still hurt seeing her look at me like that.
“You didn’t really change…”
“I won’t change,” I answered painfully. “I will never change, and you should know that better than anyone else.”
I gritted my teeth, balled my fists, and cast a cold stare at Pierce Anderson, who was looking at me with a darkened expression.
I couldn’t believe I was putting up with the man I was jealous of, just to protect the only woman I treasured.
I turned my back. “I’m going to find her now. Thank you for being safe.”
Kelly’s POV
I sucked in a breath and shook my head as Klay disappeared from my sight. I still couldn’t believe that he hadn’t changed at all. He would do as he pleased and didn’t care if people got hurt.
I understood that he was worried about me, but he couldn’t keep doing this. Emily needed him, and as her husband, he should be protecting her.
Yes, their relationship wasn’t normal. They didn’t have romantic feelings for each other, but he couldn’t just abandon her like this. He had already abandoned her before, and he couldn’t keep doing it over and over again.
“Calm down,” Pierce whispered, pulling me closer and kissing my temple.
“I just can’t believe what he did. Emily is in danger too.”
“I know… I know…” he whispered again, pulling me down to sit.
I squeezed my eyes closed and massaged the bridge of my nose. We were in that position when my phone started ringing.
My forehead creased as I saw an unknown number displayed on the screen.
I looked at Pierce with worry in my eyes. My heart suddenly raced as I thought of one possibility. It was cliché, but it could happen.
I answered the call with trembling hands and put it on speaker. “H-Hello?”
[Why do I sense fear in your voice, Kelly? Do you know who I am and why I’m calling you?]
I gritted my teeth. “Connor Foster.”
He laughed like a madman. He was always composed, and hearing him like this made me think he had completely lost it—lost everything after losing his sons.
[I’m glad you remember my voice.]
“Where is Emily?”
[Oh! That’s not very good. Pointing a finger, eh?]
“Just answer my damn question, Connor! Where is Emily?”
He chuckled. [Just somewhere… a place that’s actually intended for you.]
My forehead creased. “You’ve gone crazy.”
[Maybe. You’ll go crazier than me if you find out what I’m going to do with your friend and the people in your company.]
My eyes widened in shock as I pulled myself upright. “What are you talking about, Connor?”
[Just Connor? No ‘uncle’? You really have no respect, eh?]
“You don’t deserve respect!”
[Hmm! Okay. Just make sure you can get to your company within 15 minutes, or your employees will explode and be cut into pieces. But oh! I forgot—your amnesiac friend isn’t in your company. She’s somewhere dark, narrow, and scary. So it’s up to you who you’re going to choose. Good luck, niece.]
“What company? Connor! Connor!”
The call ended before he told me what company.
I looked at Pierce. He was already calling someone to check the companies.
No! No! It could be my dad’s or my mom’s company. This can’t be!
Pierce walked back and forth while waiting for his men to call back, while I kept thinking about what Connor had said about Emily’s location.
A place… intended for me… A dark, scary, narrow place…
My lips parted, and my chest moved up and down rapidly. No! No!
I grabbed my phone and dialed Klay’s number. We had limited manpower, so I needed his men.
[Hello?]
“Send your men to all the cemeteries in town. Look for freshly dug soil. Emily might be there.”
[What?!]
“Just do as I say, Klay! I need you to find Emily, and don’t show up without her or I won’t forgive you.”
[Okay… I’ll find her.]
I nodded and ended the call before facing Pierce. “I’m sorry, Pierce. I can’t stay here and wait. I need to take action.”
He walked toward me and took my hand, his eyes softening as he looked down at me. “I’m on your side, no matter what your plan is.”
I knew he was, and I was scared of what might happen, but I had to do this. This was our only chance to catch Connor Foster red-handed. I couldn’t let this opportunity slip by.
