Chapter 194:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Kelly’s POV
Pierce’s men were evacuating all the employees from my parents’ company when we were about to leave to help. Suddenly, one of the guards who had been left to guard us collapsed to the floor, bleeding and lifeless. I gasped as I stared into his open eyes. He had a gunshot wound to his forehead, and my heart immediately raced with fear. The memory of the night I was kidnapped when I was younger flooded back. It was terrifying… traumatizing.
Pierce immediately grabbed my hand and dragged me towards the kitchen, while the other guards exchanged gunfire with the newly arrived enemies. His actions brought me back to reality.
One of the guards handed Pierce a gun before heading out to help the others. I was panicking, and all I could think about was surviving this day without getting hurt or losing either my baby or Pierce.
“Where are we going?” I asked, the loud gunshots still echoing through the house.
Pierce licked his bottom lip and opened the sliding door. “We need to escape.”
He guided me outside, holding my hand tightly, unwilling to let go. My heart was pounding so fast I felt like it might explode from my chest at any moment.
I hadn’t expected this kind of attack. My throat went dry as Pierce and I ran toward the service exit of the mansion. It led to the garage, but opening the gate would take time, so we decided to leave on foot.

It was already 5 PM. We had spent most of the day searching for Emily, and now this was happening.
Pierce was still holding my hand tightly. In his other hand, he gripped the gun, and I could see the worry—and fear—in his eyes. He was scared for us.
“Don’t stop running, Kelly.”
I swallowed hard. “I—I’m tired. I can’t… run anymore…”
Pierce stopped and faced me. He was panting, just like me, but he didn’t care about his own body. He kneeled in front of me and motioned for me to climb onto his back.
“Get on my back, Kelly.”
“Pierce…”
“Get on my back. I will never leave you. If you’re tired of running, I’ll run for both of us. Just trust me.”
I nodded, even though he couldn’t see it, and climbed onto his back. I wrapped my arms around his neck just enough not to choke him. He started running while carrying me, and I knew it was hard for him. I couldn’t deny that I was heavy, having gained some weight due to my increased appetite.
These past few days, I’ve been on edge. “I’ll hold that gun,” I said, noticing how he struggled to carry me while also holding onto the weapon. He immediately handed it to me, just as I spotted someone ahead of us.
My eyes widened. He was alone, and it seemed like he had been looking for us—now he had found us.
“Shoot him, Kelly!” Pierce urged, continuing to run. I took a deep breath and lifted my arm. I focused all my energy on the gun, trusting Pierce completely. He kept running, and the man ahead of us started running toward us too. He pointed his gun at us, but before he could pull the trigger, I shot him.
My lips parted when he stopped running, and the sound of the gunshot echoed through the afternoon. Dogs in the subdivision started barking. “They’ll find us,” I said.
“We’ll survive this day without losing each other,” Pierce replied, making me squeeze my eyes shut. Yes, we would survive. I trusted him.
I quickly hid the gun when I saw a car coming toward us. It stopped abruptly in front of us, and my eyes widened when I saw the man sitting in the driver’s seat.
“Mason…”
“Get in,” he said, opening the door to the backseat.
A gunshot filled the air, and I realized the people chasing us had found us. Pierce immediately pushed me into the backseat before slipping into the passenger seat and grabbing the gun from me. He began exchanging gunfire with our enemies, and I couldn’t help but watch him. As the car sped away, I glanced at Mason. He was driving silently, his face serious and his jaw clenched.
He hadn’t fully recovered. Why was he here?
“I didn’t help you because I believed you. I came here because Matt wanted me to,” he said, as if he had sensed my stare.
I swallowed hard and nodded. I didn’t have the energy to speak. I was still tired… and in shock.
“Kelly, are you okay?” Pierce asked, looking at me once he was sure the enemies weren’t tailing us. His eyes were filled with worry.
I nodded and gave him a small smile.
“What about your stomach? Does it hurt?”
I shook my head and swallowed hard again. Pierce turned to Mason. “Do you have water here?”
Mason pointed to the storage compartment between the two front seats. Pierce immediately opened it and grabbed a bottle of water. He opened it and handed it to me.
“Drink slowly,” Pierce reminded me.
I nodded and drank slowly, just as he told me. I almost finished the bottle. Pierce took the remaining water and drank it before placing the empty bottle on the dashboard and facing me again. He held my…
He took my hand and intertwined our fingers. My eyes landed on our hands as he gently kissed the ring on my finger.
“Don’t be afraid. I will protect you.”
“Pierce, what about the company?”
He sighed. “I dropped my phone, and I can’t recall anyone’s number except yours.”
I squeezed my eyes shut. What should we do?
“Where are we going?” Pierce asked Mason.
Mason didn’t answer, so I opened my eyes and looked at him. My forehead creased when we entered an old, antique gate leading to a huge house. The house was old and classic, with an intricate design on the facade that amazed me. Even the greenery on the mansion’s walls had a classic, timeless look.
“Whose house is this? Mason, if you’re planning to turn me in to your father—”
“Do you really think I’m that evil?” Mason cut me off as he stopped the car in the mansion’s backyard.
He turned off the engine and looked at me through the rearview mirror. “This is an abandoned house. No one comes here, so we’re safe. Matt’s inside if you don’t trust me.”
“Matt’s inside?” My forehead creased. He opened the driver’s door and got out. Pierce helped me out, guiding me as we followed Mason. True to his word, Matt was inside, but he wasn’t alone. Sara Foster was sitting on the couch, crying. What happened?
“Kelly!” Matt saw me and walked toward me, pulling me into a hug. I was taken aback as I felt him sigh in relief. “You’re safe…”
I bit my bottom lip. “M-Matt, Emily is…”
“I know,” he whispered. “I wanted to help, but Mason brought me here. I don’t know how to leave this remote place since I have no car. Please help me escape,” he whispered in my ear, hugging me even tighter.
So, he wanted me to help him escape. That’s why he hugged me?
“No one’s leaving this house. We’ll stay here until I say so,” Mason said, drawing my attention. I looked at him, my forehead creased, as he poured liquor into a shot glass.
“What the heck is your problem, Mason? You ran over my husband! Why did you do that?!” Sara Foster screamed at him, throwing slaps and punches. But Mason didn’t even flinch.
My lips parted as I watched the scene in front of me. What’s happening?
