Chapter 196:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Kelly’s POV
I held my breath for a moment before exhaling sharply as I sat on the bed. The house was old, but it had all the necessary furniture. I was also amazed at how the mansion had managed to remain beautiful despite the fact that no one seemed to be taking care of it.
“You should sleep now,” Pierce whispered, sitting beside me and holding my hand. “I’ll look after you.”
I nodded and slowly lay on the bed. He lay beside me, wrapped his arm around my waist, and began brushing my hair with his fingers.
“I was so scared earlier,” I whispered. “I thought we’d lose each other.”
He shook his head and kissed my hair. “No one’s losing anyone, Kelly.”
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. I was almost drifting off when I heard Mason’s loud voice, followed by a series of bangs on the door.
“GET UP!”
I quickly got out of bed, following Pierce as he walked toward the door and opened it. I saw Mason knocking on another door, and Matt emerged from the room, looking worried and miserable. I knew he wanted to save Emily, but he still needed to rest to recover.
“SARA!” Mason banged on the door of the other room. “Damn it!”
He returned to stand in front of us. “I’m going to find Sara. Go to the forest area behind this house. Dad’s men are scattered along the entry road, blocking us.”
My eyes widened. “What?”

“Just f*cking go, Kelly! You too, Matt!”
“I’m not leaving you here, Mason!”
“I still need to find your stubborn aunt!”
Matt shook his head, but I grabbed his arm, drawing his attention.
“Mason will be fine. He’ll find us later,” I paused, turning to Mason. “Right?”
He immediately nodded and handed a car key to Pierce. “There’s a road at the end of the forest. There’s a car hidden there. If I don’t come within 15 minutes, leave.”
“Goddamn it, Mason! We’re not leaving you here—”
“I’ll find another way, Matt. They won’t kill me. You know that. They’re here for Kelly, and if you want your cousin to survive, you’ll do as I say.”
Matt swallowed hard and stared at his twin before glancing at me. He nodded and offered me his hand. I took it, then looked at Pierce.
“Use this,” Mason said, handing Matt a gun, which shocked the latter.
Matt accepted the gun after a few seconds and held my hand tighter. We began walking away from Mason while Pierce followed us.
“I’ll lead the way,” Pierce said as he walked ahead of us. I kept staring at my husband while Matt guided me.
Under the Moon, Soaked in the Rain
We were running again—running for our lives. The forest was dark, with the only light coming from the moon. I wanted to believe that we’d survive the night, but I didn’t want to set myself up for disappointment. No matter what we did, Connor Foster would keep chasing us, and I knew he wouldn’t stop until he succeeded in killing me.
A gunshot echoed in the silence of the night. My eyes widened as I looked back.
“KELLY!”
I gasped. Connor Foster was here. He’d completely lost it. He’d come personally to kill me.
Another hand grabbed mine. I looked at the owner of the hand holding mine—it was Pierce, and he was looking at me with darkened eyes.
“Keep running, Kelly,” Matt whispered. “Take her, Pierce.”
I shook my head and turned to Matt. “What are you going to do?”
He clenched his jaw. “Dad won’t hurt me.”
“You’re not sure about that!” I growled at him and grabbed his hand again. “Let’s go. You still need to find Emily and take care of her.”
Matt gently pulled his hand from mine and smiled. “I won’t die this way, Kelly.”
I shook my head again. “You’re still injured, and your wound is already bleeding!”
He clenched his jaw and looked at Pierce. Pierce, on the other hand, held my hand tighter. “We need to go, Kelly. We’ll wait for them at the end of the forest.”
I felt helpless. I was so frustrated for being weak in this situation. I wanted to help, but the only thing I could do was keep my baby safe.
I saw hope when I noticed the end of the forest—it was a road, after all. We were almost there when someone jumped on Pierce, and they both rolled down the road.
“Pierce!”
He accidentally dropped his gun. I immediately ran to the gun and picked it up, but someone hit me in the head.
“Kelly!”
I groaned and fell to the ground. My lips parted when something cold fell onto my shoulders, and I realized it was raining.
“F*ck you!” I heard Pierce curse at someone.
I looked at him and saw him exchanging punches with Connor. My lips parted—he was already here? What about Matt and Mason?
“Worry about yourself, Kelly. Because you’re going to die today.” It was Diane, standing in front of me.
I gritted my teeth, my head pounding from what she had done to me, but it didn’t stop me from glaring at her. “You’re still alive, you witch?” I growled.
She laughed like a madwoman, her eyes narrowing. “Then try killing me.”
From the corner of my eye, I saw the gun I had dropped. I calculated the distance and realized I wouldn’t make it. I’d probably bleed to death before I could reach it.
My gaze shifted to Pierce. He was badly beaten, but he was still fighting. Connor Foster, being part of a syndicate, was well-trained in hand-to-hand combat.
Under the Moon, Soaked in the Rain
“NO!” I shouted as Connor slammed Pierce’s head against the concrete.
I kicked Diane’s leg, and she immediately lost her balance, hitting her head on a large rock. She fell unconscious. I rolled to the ground and grabbed the gun, pointing it at Connor Foster. But before I could pull the trigger, he grabbed Pierce’s battered body and used it as a shield.
Connor’s evil laugh echoed through the night. Tears rolled down my cheeks, mixing with the mud and rain on my face.
I swallowed hard, trying to figure out what to do.
“Come on, Kelly. Shoot me!” He taunted, laughing again.
“You coward!” I growled angrily.
His expression darkened as he slowly drew a gun from his back. I lifted my chin, pressing my lips together as I gripped the gun tighter. He aimed his gun at me.
“You should’ve stayed hidden, Kelly. You shouldn’t have dug into the past. You shouldn’t have stolen my company!”
I bared my teeth. “Then I’m sorry, Connor, but I’m not sorry for what I’ve done. You should rot in jail for all the evil you’ve done.”
“YOU ARE THE EVIL, KELLY! YOU RUINED MY PERFECTLY INTACT FAMILY! SARA REBELLED AGAINST ME! MY SONS LEFT ME! YOU DID THIS TO MY FAMILY!”
I smirked. “You deserve to fall painfully, Connor. You deserve it.”
With those words, I pulled the trigger. The bullet struck his shoulder. He groaned and released Pierce, who collapsed to the ground and rolled onto the road.
My eyes widened when I saw a car approaching, its headlights blinding. I realized too late that it might hit Pierce. I got distracted, and before I knew it, Connor was already near me. He grabbed my hair and yanked me back.
I screamed in pain, the heavy rain pelting down on us, but he didn’t stop. He dragged me by the hair, and because the soil was wet, he slipped and tripped. I seized the opportunity to crawl away from him, but he grabbed my leg and yanked me back.
I kicked his face and crawled away again. I managed to get away from him and tried to run toward the gun I had dropped. But as soon as I touched it, a loud gunshot rang out, and I froze in place. My vision started to blur as tears pooled in my eyes.
