Chapter 198:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Kelly’s POV
The doctor assured me that the baby inside me was safe. When the doctor visited, I asked her about the baby, even though Pierce had already told me. Another doctor, a gynecologist, prescribed vitamins and discussed things I should do, like exercise. After a heart-to-heart with Pierce, I fell asleep, and when I woke up, I was greeted by the delicious scent of food. I saw Pierce preparing it while standing in front of the bedside table.
He glanced at me and smiled when he saw I was awake. “Are you hungry?”
I nodded and smiled back. “Yes.”
He finished preparing the food and sat on the bed beside me. He helped me sit up and began feeding me, using the same spoon to feed himself. I couldn’t help but stare at him.
“Mom called,” Pierce said as we ate. “Snow’s enjoying her school. I think we should let her finish her schooling there and just bring her here every summer.”
I smiled and nodded. “That’s a good idea. It’s better for her to stay there since the environment here won’t help her. The news about the mess is still circulating, and I don’t want her to be affected by what happened.”
“That’s what I thought too.”

We continued eating. Afterward, I rested again and asked Pierce to lie beside me on the bed. We slept next to each other, and I slept peacefully with my arm around his waist. When I opened my eyes again, Pierce was still sleeping peacefully, and someone was sitting in the chair beside the bed on my side.
“Sara…”
It looked like she had been falling asleep while sitting, but when she heard my voice, she lifted her face and looked at me. She sighed as she stared at my face. I didn’t know what she was thinking, but the calmness in her eyes comforted me.
“You look like your mom when she was your age.”
A smile curved on my lips. “Dad said that too.”
Finally, she gave me a smile, but it quickly turned into a bitter one. “I’m sorry…”
I took a deep breath. “You didn’t do anything.”
“That’s why I’m sorry. I’m sorry because I didn’t do anything.”
I swallowed hard.
Forgiveness. Is it always hard to give to people who don’t deserve it, which is why it’s hard to forgive? Sara didn’t do anything. She was a victim too. She had been manipulated by her own brother, and…
Kelly’s POV
Sara had been deceived by her husband. He only wanted her wealth, and I now knew that she had discovered it.
Sara sniffled and looked down, staring at her fingers. “I was blinded by my love for my husband. I even tried to cover for him. If not for Mason, I wouldn’t be here asking for forgiveness.”
“We were all hurt and manipulated by the same person, Sara. You’re not at fault.”
She lifted her face and looked at me. “You are brave and smart, just like your mom. I envy her for having a daughter like you.”
Forgiveness…
I smiled at her. “You can be a mother to my children, Sara. I’m not kicking you out of my life. I actually want you to meet my family. I want you to feel my daughter’s embrace and experience her love.”
She sobbed, tears welling up in her eyes. “I’d love that!”
I extended my arm to her. She hesitated for a moment, but then she extended her arm too and took my hand. She laughed and sobbed again as soon as our hands met. Her hands were warm, soft, and comforting. She’s the sister of my mother, and I could feel my mother’s touch in her, which made me tear up. Tears rolled down my cheeks as I stared at our hands.
“Thank you for saving me and accepting me, Kelly. I promise you that I will stay by your side, and you won’t be alone anymore. I will fulfill the duties of the family that failed to protect your mother. You will be loved more than you deserve.”
I nodded and smiled at her. She pulled herself up and came closer to me. She hugged me tightly, and I buried my face in her chest, letting out the longing I had for my mother.
I noticed that Pierce was awake when he moved and sat on the bed. He was looking at us with a smile on his face. He’s happy for me, and I know that he supports whatever decision I make. I want to forgive Sara. I want to forget everything that happened in the past and live a brand new life with my family.
Sara pulled away from the hug and wiped my tears, then wiped her own wet cheeks. “I’m going to talk to Mason and check on Matt.”
I nodded at her. “Thank you… Auntie.”
She paused and stared at me with parted lips, emotions crossing her face. She smiled again and nodded before hugging me once more. After she left, I looked at Pierce, feeling a lighter weight in my heart.
Forgiveness may be hard, but once you give it to the person who deserves it, it will free you from pain and suffering. It will make you feel better. It will give you peace.
My stay in the hospital didn’t last long. After almost a week, I was finally discharged. Just like I said, I visited Klay. I told him all the pain he had caused me. I told him how much I loved him, but how deeply he disappointed me. And in the end, I told him that I forgave him.
It wasn’t easy. Forgiving the person who hurt you so badly and wounded your heart is never easy. I had to think about it over and over again before I made the decision to forgive him. Just like what I…
“… forgiveness will free us from the pain.”
“You don’t have to worry about me because I’m happy,” I said while staring at Klay’s picture. Beside it was his mother’s.
Actually, I also wanted to transfer my mom and dad’s ashes here. I wanted to place them together, so I could visit them both at the same time.
Pierce was standing beside me, holding my hand again. We were about to leave when I noticed someone else visiting her loved ones.
My lips parted when our gazes met, but her blank eyes didn’t recognize me.
Emily had been discharged before me, but she still hadn’t regained her memories. The doctor said it could take time, but also warned that it may never return. I wasn’t sure if that was a good thing or not. She had already lost one child, and if she learned that she had lost another, it would break her. But without her memories, her life would remain tied to her painful past.
A man appeared behind her, and Emily lowered her sunglasses, angrily looking at Matt, who was grinning ear to ear.
“What are you doing here, you stalker?”
Matt smiled even wider. “I’m stalking you. What else?”
Matt wasn’t ready to let her go, and even if she didn’t remember him, he was patient. He didn’t dare mention their past, but I knew he wasn’t giving up on her.
Another man appeared, looking like a badass in a black leather jacket, completely different from Matt in his white dress shirt and black slacks.
Mason still felt guilty for what happened to Emily. He was now taking care of her, following her around and making sure she was safe. I wasn’t sure about the relationship between the three of them, but I was happy knowing that even though Emily didn’t remember me, she had two people who cared for her.
Pierce’s arm wrapped around my waist, bringing me back to the moment. I looked up at him and smiled. “Shall we go?”
He nodded and kissed my temple. “Yes. I booked a reservation at a restaurant.”
Before we left, I glanced back at Emily, Mason, and Matt. They were arguing, but I couldn’t help but feel a sense of peace knowing that my cousins would protect my friend and keep her safe. I just hoped that when her memories came back, she would forgive herself and live the happy life she truly deserved.
