Chapter 540:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Just then, Heather stepped out of the kitchen, carrying a tray of fresh breakfast. Her eyes widened the moment she saw Jaqueline unconscious on the floor. “What on earth happened?” she gasped, setting the tray aside and hurrying over. “Dayna, what did you do to her?!”
Kristopher turned to shoot her a cutting look. “Shut up!”
Heather flinched as if slapped. She bit her lip hard, shrinking back, afraid to make another sound.
“Get the hell out!” Kristopher snapped again, the disgust in his voice unmistakable now—raw, unfiltered.
Heather stood there stunned, her finger trembling as she pointed weakly at herself, grasping for any thread of innocence. “Kristopher… you want me to leave? What did I do wrong…?”
But the storm in his eyes was merciless. “Out!” he repeated.
The fury radiating off him was suffocating—simmering rage barely held in check.
Heather’s courage withered completely. Without another word, she spun on her heel and bolted out in clumsy panic.
Upstairs, Jaqueline had already been carried to the guest suite to rest. Kristopher had wasted no time—the family doctor was summoned, instructed to stay at her side, day and night.
Once the chaos settled, the house fell into an uneasy silence. Kristopher collapsed onto the sofa, elbows resting on his knees, eyes blank. His figure looked leaner, sharper, as though he’d been carved down by all those sleepless nights. The sharp line of his jaw looked cruel under the pale light.
Dayna stood quietly nearby, watching him—his stillness, the trembling tension in his hands, the way his fists refused to unclench. A helpless ache twisted in her chest.

She hesitated only a moment before approaching, her palm landing lightly on his shoulder. “You box, don’t you?” Her voice was softer than usual, edged with quiet insistence. “Let’s hit the basement… work off some of that fire before it eats you alive.”
Kristopher didn’t move. His head tilted, but his eyes remained blank, staring into some distant place she couldn’t reach. “I’m not in the mood,” he muttered.
It was rare for him to reject her. That alone said more than words ever could.
He had reached his edge—emotionally scorched and running on fumes. But Dayna wasn’t giving up. For once, she took his wrist firmly in hers. “No. You’re coming with me.”
