Chapter 544:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Dayna hurried upstairs to take a hot shower.
When they reached the airport, Lucas was already waiting.
As soon as he saw Kristopher, surprise flashed across his face. He drew Dayna aside and spoke in a hushed tone. “I thought I told you to bring a few of his men. Why did you bring him along?”
Dayna sighed helplessly. “There’s still a price on my head, remember? He couldn’t stand the thought of me going out by myself.” Once Kristopher made up his mind, there was no changing it.
Lucas shot a glance at Kristopher and scratched his head in exasperation. “Alright. I guess having him here makes things a little safer anyway.”
Dayna nodded. “Let’s get on the plane.”
With that, she wheeled Kristopher toward the boarding gate.
The flight from Arkmery to Chicton lasted two hours. By the time they touched down, it was already afternoon.
The sunlight was still glaring.
Dayna lifted her hand to shield her eyes, then turned to Lucas with a puzzled look. “This place is a mess and not even your territory. Why did you pick it for the deal?”
Lucas let out a weary sigh. “Chicton has a rare substance that boosts the power of explosives. After they cleared out my inventory, I tested it with this stuff. The results were better than anything I’d seen. So for the sake of convenience, I decided to handle the transaction here.”

Dayna pressed her lips together. “How much are you supposed to hand over this time? And can you figure out why they’re stockpiling so many explosives?” She couldn’t shake the uneasy feeling in her stomach.
Dreadvale’s rush to buy up so many explosives had to mean something more.
Were they planning to take down the government with them in some desperate last stand?
If the government fell, the locals would be left with nothing. Life would only grow harsher.
“I’ll have someone watch them closely and let you know if we hear anything,” Lucas assured her.
Dayna nodded. “Alright.”
By this time, Lucas had already arranged two rooms at a nearby hotel. Meanwhile, Dayna began to unpack her suitcase.
“I’ll take you to inspect the merchandise now. After that, we’ll reach out to them for the actual deal,” Lucas said.
Dayna made an OK sign with her fingers. “Alright.”
Then, she turned to Kristopher. “Stay here and wait for me. I’ll be back soon.”
“I can skip the inspection, but I have to be there for the transaction,” Kristopher asserted.
Dayna raised a brow. “Why?”
“I’m worried,” Kristopher reasoned. “Your beauty stands out too much. If you show up, there’s a chance they’ll put it together. While you’re busy trying to dig up dirt on them, they’ve been hunting for you too.”
It was a stroke of luck that Dayna’s features only faintly echoed her father’s. She took after her mother more. If that hadn’t been the case, showing her face would’ve been enough to give away everything.
Lucas seemed to realize just how serious things were. He looked at Dayna with concern and said, “I can’t believe we missed that. Your face isn’t something people easily forget. If you show up at the deal, they’ll recognize you for sure.”
Dayna frowned deeply. “I still need to meet them myself if I want a shot at reaching their superiors.”
She glanced at the mirror beside her. Staring back was a stunningly beautiful face. Even without makeup, her skin was flawless, her features impossibly delicate. Just like Lucas said, it was a face people would remember.
Dayna turned to Kristopher and gave him a pointed look. “Your face is pretty hard to miss too.”
So, if they were to show up at the transaction, they’d have to disguise themselves first.
Lucas shrugged. “You two are so good-looking. It’s almost impossible to hide.”
Kristopher’s brow furrowed. “Wearing masks would stand out too much. That might actually make us more conspicuous.”
Suddenly, Dayna’s eyes lit up. “I have an idea. Let’s find a cosmetics store.”
Lucas rubbed his chin thoughtfully. “Pretty sure there’s one downstairs. We passed it on the way up.”
“You two stay put. I’ll be right back.”
Dayna hurried off. About thirty minutes later, she returned carrying a bag stuffed with makeup products.
Lucas eyed the pile of cosmetics and let out a low whistle. “Do you really need all that just to put on some makeup? No wonder it takes you women forever to get ready.”
“Maybe stick to your bombs, Mr. Practical.” Dayna shot him a look, then dug through the bag for what she needed.
She moved closer to Kristopher and continued, “Your features are so striking. I’m not sure this will do much, but we’ll give it a shot.”
It was nearly impossible to change someone’s face entirely with makeup. All she could hope for was to soften and disguise some of Kristopher’s most distinctive features.
