Chapter 554:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
A faint tremor passed through the little boy’s small fingers as he stared at his ghostly pale hands. “You don’t have to pretend with me. I already know my own body. There isn’t much time left for me.” He drew in a shaky breath. “My dad keeps telling me I don’t have a future. He says I could go any day now.”
Dayna mustered a playful smile, softening her tone as if to ward off the heaviness in the air. “Maybe your dad was right—before you met us. Didn’t you just call me an angel? We angels bring miracles to those who believe in them! I can help you keep living.”
Hope shimmered in the boy’s eyes. His voice quivered, brightening with cautious excitement as he asked, “Can you truly save me?”
Nell met his gaze, her voice warm and steady. “Absolutely. All you have to do is trust us and follow our lead. I promise, you’ll be all right.”
A shadow of doubt flickered across his features. He dropped his voice, almost whispering. “But… I think the Grim Reaper already picked me.”
Dayna squeezed his hand, her touch gentle and reassuring. “The Grim Reaper has nothing on my magic,” she said, flashing a mischievous smile. “I promise, I’m more powerful than any ghostly legend. Don’t you believe in me?”
For a heartbeat, he looked uncertain—but then determination sparked in his eyes. He nodded earnestly. “I do. I always thought angels must really exist. And they have beautiful, enchanted cabins hidden away. If I could visit, I’d want to hear every story those angels have to tell.”
Dayna’s gaze softened, her smile brightening with a glimmer of warmth. The boy was so heartbreakingly young and innocent—his soul still untouched by life’s harsher truths, eyes wide with unspoiled hope.

Letting her cheerful energy fill the room, Dayna glanced around and replied, “How about we make our trip to the enchanted cabin tomorrow? Sound good? But don’t forget, the kind of magic you read about in books isn’t always the same as what you’ll find in the real world.”
His whole face lit up. “Really? I can actually visit the enchanted cabin tomorrow?” He bounced up from the sofa, bursting with uncontained excitement.
The moment he tried to get up, his legs buckled and he collapsed back onto the sofa. Dayna caught him just in time, steadying his frail frame before he could tumble to the floor.
She leaned in, concern flickering across her features. “Are you alright?”
The boy managed a weak, reassuring smile. “I’m okay. Really.”
