Chapter 500:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Regret weighed heavily on me. Why couldn’t I control myself today? I wanted to punch myself.
Why did I always lose control when I was with her?
“Mr. Wharton?”
Connor called out to me.
“I want some time alone. You should go back,” I said.
“Understood,” Connor replied.
After he left, I wandered aimlessly around the room, like a ghost. I lit a cigarette, watching as the smoke curled around me.
Just then, the door opened, and an angel ran in.
“Dad!”
Lucas rushed straight to my side. I quickly stubbed out the cigarette between my fingers. He had just been discharged from the hospital and couldn’t stand the smell of smoke.
“You’re smoking again. Don’t go back on your word,” Lucas scolded.
I reached out and ruffled his hair.

“I just took a small sip,” I said gently.
“Then I won’t argue with you,” he replied, his eyes flashing with innocence.
A second later, his gaze landed on my chest, and his expression shifted to one of concern.
“Dad, how did you get hurt?”
“It’s nothing. I ran into a crazy woman today,” I said casually, not wanting him to know that Bella had stabbed me.
“The crazy woman hurt you? Why didn’t you call the police?” Lucas asked, blinking up at me.
“Because I wasn’t innocent either. I provoked her first. As for the details… I can’t tell you just yet,” I said.
Lucas nodded.
“Okay, I got it.”
Then he nudged my leg and asked, “Daddy, didn’t you say you were going to bring Mom back today?”
I froze for a moment, then stroked his head, trying to soothe him.
“Mom needs to take care of your little sister. She’ll come to see you in a few days.”
Lucas pouted.
“Mom is so unfair. She always takes care of my little sister and never comes to see me.”
Hearing this, I gently touched his head.
“Your little sister is still young and needs your mom to take care of her. But you’re already a man. You can take care of yourself, right? And I’m here to take care of you too.”
Lucas straightened his arms, flexing them in a show of strength.
