Chapter 1010:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Sophie’s eyes widened at once. “Seriously? That’s impressive. You actually remembered an umbrella?”
Sarah rubbed the back of her neck, looking embarrassed. “Well… yesterday I was cleaning the apartment and found three umbrellas stuffed at the bottom of my closet.” She coughed lightly. “Turns out they were all borrowed from you. Borrowed and completely forgotten. So I brought one back today. Didn’t expect it to save us.”
Sophie laughed. “So that’s the mystery. I kept thinking my umbrellas vanished into thin air.”
Sarah hooked her arm through Sophie’s and started walking toward the exit. “Come on. Since I’m the one with the umbrella today, why don’t you come to my place? I’ll cook. Someone gave me a bunch of steak. We’ll make steak tonight, and afterward, you can take your missing umbrellas home.”
Sophie nodded without hesitation. “Deal. That sounds perfect.”
Sarah raised an eyebrow, looking at her sideways. “You agreed way too fast today.” Her smile turned teasing. “What happened? Aren’t you going to ask Adrian first?” She leaned in and laughed. “That man is ridiculously possessive. If he finds out you skipped going home, don’t be surprised if he comes knocking on my door to drag you back himself.”
Sophie paused for a second before answering, “Adrian’s not in Dranland today.”
Sarah immediately caught on and raised a brow. “Out on another business trip? No wonder you actually had time for me. If he were around, I’d probably have to book an appointment just to see you.”
The complaint was clearly teasing, and Sophie couldn’t help laughing. “Since when have I ever refused when you asked me out?”
Sarah crossed her arms and gave her a pointed look. “Have you seriously not noticed? Ever since you and he became a thing, I’ve been calling you out less and less. I was being considerate, giving you space and trying not to become the third wheel. So tell me, who treats you best?”

Sophie smiled without hesitation. “You do. You treat me the best.”
Their laughter echoed all the way back to Sarah’s apartment building.
They had just reached downstairs when Sarah suddenly stopped mid-step and smacked her forehead. “Oh no. We ran out of beer.” Then she widened her eyes dramatically. “Steak without ice-cold beer? That’s practically a crime.”
Sophie let out a helpless sigh. “Go upstairs and start preparing everything. I’ll buy some from the store across the street.”
Sarah’s face lit up in an instant. “Deal! You’re a lifesaver. Love you.”
The convenience store was close enough that it took barely a minute to reach. Sophie bought a few bottles and headed back.
When she arrived at the apartment, she noticed the front door was shut. That gave her pause. Sarah should have gotten there before her, and she usually left the door unlocked when expecting someone. Still, she didn’t dwell on it. She simply knocked.
A moment later, the door opened.
