Chapter 987:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
It took him hours to track her down. After exhausting every option he could think of, he finally managed to get information from a nurse. Carole had been brought in after a medical emergency, but she had been found in time. Fearing another incident, her family had arranged for her to be moved to a monitored ward under constant watch.
The news nearly destroyed him. He knew he had to see her, no matter the risk.
For the first few days, staff monitored her closely. Unlike the Davis family’s estate, the hospital was busy and well-staffed, with nurses and attendants moving through the hallways at all hours. The Davis family had placed only one trusted guard at Carole’s door. Kole spent that time memorizing the shift rotations and patrol patterns until he finally found his window.
He slipped into the room like a shadow, moving silently through the dark.
In the pale moonlight streaming through the window, he saw the figure on the bed.
“Miss Davis…” He barely managed to get the words out before his voice cracked.
He hardly recognized her. It hadn’t even been two months, but the vibrant, spirited girl he knew was gone — replaced by someone frail and hollow.
At the sound of his voice, Carole shuddered. She turned her head slowly, her vacant eyes finding his, and they instantly filled with tears.

“Kole, why did you take so long?” she whispered, her voice thick with pain.
Kole rushed to her side, kneeling by the bed and pulling her small, trembling body into his arms. “I’m so sorry. It’s my fault. I was too late.”
Carole finally let go, breaking down in his embrace as all the fear and humiliation she had been holding back came pouring out of her.
Kole had never seen her cry like this. It broke something in him that he wasn’t sure could be repaired. He wanted to take every bit of her pain for himself, but he had to reach up and gently cover her mouth.
“We have to be quiet,” he said softly, “or the guards will hear us.”
Carole bit her lip and nodded, tears still streaming down her face.
Kole released her slightly, his eyes falling to her wrist. He saw the long, jagged scar — an ugly mark etched into her once-perfect skin.
He knew how much she hated pain. She used to cry over the smallest things. He couldn’t fathom the depth of despair that would drive her to harm herself like this.
“Can you tell me,” Kole began, fighting to keep the murderous rage out of his voice so he wouldn’t frighten her, “what happened that day?”
