Chapter 1607:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
If Wesley had understood the true cost of pregnancy and childbirth, he would have stopped it before it ever began. He didn’t need children to feel whole—Elena alone was enough. If he could, he would spend his life caring for her as if she were the most fragile treasure in the world.
Elena was about to tease him for being dramatic when she suddenly felt something warm against her skin.
She went still.
Tears. His tears.
Wesley was crying. But why? She was the one who had endured everything, and she hadn’t shed a single tear.
Elena lifted her hand instinctively, stroking his back.
“Hey… what’s all this for? The babies and I are perfectly fine.”
Wesley didn’t answer. He only pulled her closer and held her tighter.
He stayed in her hospital room the entire time, never once going to check on the babies.
When he reached to pour her a glass of water, Elena caught his wrist and looked at him, suddenly serious.
“Wesley, what’s going on? Don’t you want to see the babies?”
“That’s not it,” he said quickly, shaking his head.
“If you love them, then of course I do too.”
Her brows knit.
“Then why haven’t you gone to look at them?”
Wesley’s lashes trembled as his gaze dropped to the floor. Words failed him, but his thoughts screamed the truth.
He was terrified of losing her.
Not wanting to upset her, Wesley stood and forced his voice steady.

“I’ll go check on them now.”
Elena stopped him, determined to free him from that constant, suffocating fear. With surprising firmness, she gave him a gentle shove and guided him back onto the bed—until he had no choice but to meet her eyes.
Elena asked, “What’s going on in that head of yours? I’m right here. What is it that scares you so much?”
“I’m not scared,” Wesley muttered, his voice faltering as he avoided her eyes.
He had no idea his expression had already given him away.
“Tell me the truth,” Elena warned.
“Otherwise, the study will be your new bedroom.”
Her mock threat made Wesley flinch, panic flashing across his face.
“No—wait! I’m sorry, sweetheart! I just…” His breath caught.
“I was terrified of losing you.”
When Elena hadn’t made a sound during childbirth, Wesley had imagined the worst. He couldn’t even stand the thought of a world without her.
Wesley took her hand gently, his thumb tracing slow circles over her skin.
“Please don’t be mad, okay? You’ve just given birth—getting upset isn’t good for you. If it helps you feel better, go ahead and hit me. I’m tough. I can take it.”
Elena couldn’t help smiling. She touched his cheek lightly.
“Stop talking nonsense. I’m here, I’m healthy, and I’m not going anywhere.”
Wesley lifted his gaze to hers, and his deep eyes glowed with warmth and devotion.
Elena leaned in and pressed a gentle kiss to his lips. The rest of their lives stretched out before them—filled with a love that belonged only to the two of them.
