Chapter 749:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
She was too tired, unable to carry the weight of it all.
Myron felt a sudden chill of fear.
Though Millie seemed calmer than in the past—no longer thrashing or lashing out when jolted from her nightmares—the emptiness in her eyes was worse. It was as though her soul might slip away at any second, leaving behind only an empty shell.
Even as he held her hand tightly, it felt like she was drifting farther out of reach. “Millie,” Myron said again, but she didn’t respond. She just glanced down blankly, lowering her long lashes.
It was like she was looking at him and through him at the same time. Myron shuddered with panic.
The bed dipped as he sat down and pulled her into his arms. He clutched her close, terrified he might lose her. She could hear the strong, steady beat of his heart against her ear.
“Don’t leave me,” he whispered, his voice betraying a faint tremor.
But Millie didn’t know what to say.
After a long silence, she finally murmured, “I’m not going anywhere.” Yet even those words felt hollow. What good was it if only her empty shell stayed while her spirit had already gone?
Myron cupped her face and stared into her eyes. “Millie, I’m terrified,” he said. “It feels like any second now, you might just slip away and be gone.”
Reaching out, Millie ran her fingers gently along his jawline.
He caught her hand and whispered, “This isn’t your fault. Stop punishing yourself for what others did to you.”
Myron’s chest ached like it was being ripped apart. “Millie, I can’t live without you. Ari can’t either.”
He wanted to anchor her somehow, to give her something to hold onto, even just for now.

“Millie?” he called softly again.
“I’m here,” she whispered.
Myron’s eyes had already reddened. Then he felt her lips press lightly against his—Millie kissing him first, as if to prove to him that she was indeed there.
Myron felt a shiver run down his body.
He cupped her face, deepening the kiss.
Millie let herself be drawn in, yielding completely.
Myron’s lips trailed from hers to her neck to her collarbone before he buried his face against her chest.
She didn’t stop him. She only stared blankly at the ceiling, her body trembling slightly under his touch.
If this was what he wanted, she would let him have it. That was all she thought. Nothing else mattered anymore.
Myron’s hands slid to her waist, undoing the buttons of her nightgown. His lips grazed the scars on her skin, each kiss carrying heat and desperation.
