Chapter 763: (END)

Dad still didn’t look pleased. “Geoffrey!” he called, his voice deep and sharp.
Uncle Geoffrey appeared from somewhere, hurrying over. “Yes, Mr. Laurent, what is it?”
Dad gave him a hard look. “As the housekeeper, you thought it was fine to let the children climb a ladder to the second floor? Do you have any idea how dangerous that was?”
Uncle Geoffrey stiffened and lowered his head. “I’m sorry, sir. It won’t happen again.”
Though Dad’s words were directed at Geoffrey, Minnie could tell he was really scolding her for sneaking into the room.

She frowned, wanting to apologize, but she didn’t even know what exactly she’d done wrong. So she lowered her head and bit her lip, looking rather guilty.
Mum reached out and stroked Minnie’s hair. “It’s alright. Your dad’s not really angry with you.”
Minnie looked up. “He’s not?”
“If he dares to be, I’ll sleep with you tonight,” Mum said, raising an eyebrow with a playful grin.
Dad grabbed her wrist at once. “No.”
Mum swatted his hand. “Don’t you think you’ve had enough? I miss spending time with the kids.”
Dad frowned, a conflicted look flickering across his face. After a moment, he said quietly, “I won’t… tonight. But you’re not sleeping with the kids either.”
Seeing his oddly sulky expression, Mum couldn’t help laughing. “All right, all right, I won’t sleep with the kids.”
“Mum,” Minnie protested.
“That’s enough,” Dad said impatiently, waving a hand. “I forgive you. Now off you go. Stop bothering your mum and dad.”
Minnie looked at him, a little hurt.
But Dad showed no sign of softening. Instead, he reached for Mum’s hand possessively and said, almost like a child, “She’s mine.”
“Huh?”
“What?”
Both Mum and Minnie spoke at once.
Across the room, Mickey, who’d been listening, turned to stare at Dad too.
He quickly added, “For now, at least. Go on, go play with Mickey.”
Minnie sighed, defeated. After being sent away for the third time, she trudged off, shoulders drooping.
Watching her daughter’s small, sulky figure disappear, Mira half-sighed, half-smiled. “Honestly, was that necessary? Competing with your own child?”
Ashton looked serious. “You don’t get it. Managing to steal even a few moments alone with you, away from the kids, feels like a luxury.”
Mira paused, thinking about it, and realized he wasn’t wrong.
Still, what could they do?
With kids in the house, that was just how life went.
