Chapter 490:

Micah chuckled self-deprecatingly.
When had their roles reversed?
Didn’t matter.
Finding Darya was all that mattered now.
He longed to lay eyes on her, even if it was just for a moment.
Meanwhile, after a non-stop journey, Darya arrived at the branch office, eager to settle work matters first so she could enjoy her vacation. After a meeting, she was…
Heading downstairs while engaged in a conversation with Jasper Rolando, the branch manager, Darya overheard a conversation in the lobby.
“Who’s that man waiting there? He’s been there all afternoon,” one woman remarked.
“I don’t know, but damn, he’s so hot! Like the hottest guy I’ve ever seen!” another woman replied.
“I totally agree! Maybe he’s waiting for someone in our company. She’s one lucky girl!”
Darya glanced towards the waiting area, perplexed by her colleagues’ conversation. Then, her gaze landed on a familiar figure.
His deep eyes locked with hers, causing her heart to skip a beat.
“Oh no, not again!”
Micah’s sudden appearance sent a jolt of frustration through Darya. A wave of exhaustion crashed over her, threatening to drown her in unwanted memories. She pressed her temples, willing the encroaching headache to retreat.
Escape was no longer an option.
Micah had already spotted her, and his determined strides were rapidly closing the distance between them. Darya braced herself for the confrontation.
Micah’s eyes scanned the scene, briefly acknowledging the man beside Darya with an icy glance before fixing his gaze on her.

“Why did you come here?” he demanded, his voice tinged with an undercurrent of unresolved emotions.
Darya resisted the urge to roll her eyes at Micah, a small act of mercy she allowed herself.
“Why? Do I have to report to you every time I travel?” she retorted, keeping her tone firm but controlled.
Micah’s response was measured. “No need, I just wanted to ask. Curiosity got the best of me.”
“You flew all the way here just to ask that?” Darya responded, her voice tinged with disbelief.
Jasper Rolando, astute enough to sense the tension between them, discreetly coughed twice. “Miss McAllister, is this a friend of yours?”
