Chapter 510:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Her eyes widened. The implications hit her with the force of a physical blow.
“Baker sees you as a threat because you represent the company’s future,” Enrico said, his voice low and serious. “I see you as our only hope, because you are the only one with the right to uncover its past.”
He paused, his gaze softening. “Your father was a good man, Allison. A brilliant man. But he was forced to make compromises to build this company. Compromises that left vulnerabilities. And after he was gone, Baker didn’t just exploit those vulnerabilities. He turned them into his personal piggy bank.”
His eyes held hers. “You’ve known the truth about their murder for a long time, Allison. We’ve spoken of it before, how Baker killed your father and mother, how he stole your birthright. The Compliance Department is the weapon I am giving you to find the evidence. The contracts he signed before that plane took off. The emails he thought were deleted. The physical proof that will put him away for good.”
A cold, fierce energy ignited in Allison’s chest. She wasn’t surprised or stunned, she was finally holding the sword she had been reaching for since the night she first confronted Enrico with the truth. The fear she had carried alone for so long, the secret she had entrusted to him in that desperate gambit, was now being answered with action.
“There is no one else who can do this,” Enrico continued, his voice filled with a sudden, fierce energy. “Go to the archives. Go to the servers. Dig up every contract, every transaction, every email from the last twenty years. Find out what Baker signed just before that plane took off. Find out who he was talking to.”
Her breath came in ragged gasps. This wasn’t an exile. It was an ordination. He had just handed her a holy sword and pointed her toward the dragon’s lair.

She stood up, her body trembling slightly, and bowed her head in a gesture of profound respect. “I understand, Mr. Langley. Thank you.”
He reached out and placed a hand on her shoulder. “Don’t thank me. This is about justice for your father. It is the mission you were born to complete.”
He walked to his desk, opened a locked drawer, and pulled out a single, old-fashioned plastic keycard with a magnetic stripe. It looked like a relic from the 1990s.
“This is the physical master key to the sub-basement archives,” he said, pressing it into her hand. “The highest level of clearance. Baker thinks he had all the copies destroyed years ago. He never knew your father gave me one, just in case.”
The card was heavy in her palm, warm from his hand. It felt like a torch being passed.
When she left Enrico’s office, all the confusion and doubt had been burned away, replaced by a cold, clear, and absolute resolve.
She went directly to her new office in the Compliance Department. It was a sterile, functional space, but it had everything she needed.
