Chapter 535:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
He held her tightly, his hand stroking her hair, his chin resting on the top of her head. She felt the rigid tension in his shoulders begin to ease.
“I’m back,” he murmured into her hair, rough with exhaustion.
Inside, under the warm lights, she guided him to a sofa, her hands fluttering over him, checking for fresh injuries, signs of fever.
“Did they hurt you? Is your arm okay? What happened?” The words tumbled over each other.
A faint, tired smile touched his lips. He let her fuss, his gaze settling on her with a stillness she hadn’t seen in days. “It was just a meeting, Allison. A small disagreement.”
“Adam. Tell me.”

He was silent for a long moment, his gaze distant, as if replaying the events. Then he looked at her, eyes grave. She could see he had made a decision.
“My grandfather, Reginald, and two of my uncles tried to invoke an incapacity clause in the family trust,” he said, his voice flat. “They used the shooting as a pretext to argue my judgment was impaired, that I was a liability. They wanted to strip me of my voting rights on the board of MK Holdings.”
Allison gasped. A corporate coup disguised in legal jargon.
“They tried to take your company.”
“They tried.” His mouth ticked upward in a cold, mirthless smile. “I held an emergency ‘hearing.’ I explained, in very simple terms, that my will contains a dead man’s switch. If I am removed or incapacitated against my will, it triggers the immediate liquidation of a series of offshore holding companies, flooding the market and rendering the entire Kensington family’s public stock worthless within twenty-four hours.”
He had threatened them with mutually assured destruction, a scorched-earth policy that would burn their shared kingdom to the ground. The sheer ruthlessness left her speechless.
He took her hand, his thumb stroking the back of it. His eyes locked onto hers. “I have dealt with my family’s treachery. Just as I am dealing with yours.”
He framed it as a shared burden. My family, your family. Us, against them.
The words resonated deep within her. She was no longer a lone warrior. She was part of an alliance.
She looked at the weary lines around his eyes, the way his hand protected his injured arm, and her heart ached with fierce, protective tenderness.
“You’re exhausted,” she said softly. “You need to rest.”
She helped him to his feet and began to lead him toward the master bedroom. As they walked, he stopped and turned.
“Allison. You need to understand. After what I did today, their war is now your war. They will see you as my only vulnerability. They will come after you with everything they have.”
She met his gaze. In her eyes, there was no fear, only a new, unshakeable strength.
“I am not your weakness, Adam,” she said, her voice clear and steady. “I will be your weapon.”
The first light of dawn bled through the bulletproof glass, painting the stark, minimalist bedroom in shades of gray and pale rose. The silence was absolute, broken only by the soft, clinical rustle of gauze.
