Chapter 540:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
“First,” Allison said, her voice barely a whisper, a sound meant only for Katharine’s ears, “I am not a rat. I’m the hunter who is about to take back the entire forest you and your husband stole.”
Katharine flinched, a flicker of fear in her eyes at the raw killing intent in Allison’s voice.
“Second,” Allison continued, her voice dropping even lower, softer, “regarding being ‘pushed too far,’ I suggest you go back to your office and have your accountants trace a wire transfer from five years ago. Five hundred thousand dollars. From a shell corporation in the Cayman Islands to a man in Nevada named Marco.”
The name landed. Katharine’s face went slack, the blood draining from it so fast she looked like a corpse. Her manicured hand flew to her throat. Her eyes widened in sheer panic, her lips parting as if she wanted to ask how Allison could possibly know that secret.
Allison watched the terror bloom in her aunt’s eyes and felt a grim satisfaction. She leaned in closer, her lips almost brushing Katharine’s ear.
“I have more than just a name,” she whispered, her tone as soft as silk, as deadly as a razor. “I have account numbers. I have audio files. I have everything.”
She pulled back, her expression once again cool and composed.

“So you will control your daughter. And you will control yourself. Because the next time you threaten me, this file doesn’t go to my lawyer. It goes directly to the FBI.”
She straightened her jacket, turned, and walked away without a backward glance, leaving Katharine standing alone in the middle of the lobby, trembling, ice-cold, struggling to breathe.
The war had begun. And Allison had just fired the first, devastating shot.
Back in the sanctuary of her office, Allison closed the door and leaned against it, her heart hammering against her ribs. The confrontation had ignited her adrenaline, leaving her hands trembling slightly. She took a deep, steadying breath.
She walked to her desk and pulled up the live stock ticker for Montgomery Group. The chart was a battlefield.
Adam’s announcement of a strategic investment evaluation had sent the stock soaring at the opening bell, hitting the circuit breaker within minutes. But she could see the enemy fighting back. Massive blocks of shares were being dumped periodically, desperate attempts by powerful players, friends of Baker, no doubt, to trigger a panic sell-off and drive the price down.
It was useless.
For every wave of selling, an even larger, more powerful wave of buying surged forward, absorbing the shares instantly. The buy wall was a monolithic, immovable force. It was Adam. He was using the infinite resources of MK Holdings to build a fortress of capital around her, daring anyone to attack.
The sheer scale of it was breathtaking. This wasn’t just a statement of support. It was a declaration of ownership, a display of power so immense it bordered on obscene. He was defending her with his empire.
Her secure phone chimed with an incoming video call. His name flashed on the screen.
She answered, her voice still a little shaky. “I’m watching the stock.”
