Chapter 517:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Stella slowly made her way back to the RK Mansion. Anyway, she might as well go there instead of waiting. RK must have gone back to the RK Mansion. Knowing that she hadn’t been back for a month, he called her. RK had indeed returned to the RK Mansion.
However, Aunt Maya had called RK while they were on a business trip abroad and informed him that Stella had not returned home.
Originally, RK thought that since Stella had seen him today, she should be back. However, he still didn’t see Stella when he returned to the RK Mansion, leaving him with no choice but to call her.
Stella walked slowly toward the RK Mansion. Although she knew it was still far from where she was, she treated the walk as if she were merely taking a stroll. Gradually, Stella found herself in a deserted area, and the sky slowly darkened. The dark clouds gathered above her, casting a gloomy atmosphere.
Suddenly, a bolt of lightning illuminated the sky, revealing Stella’s face. Not long after, a thunderous rumble echoed not far away. The trees on both sides of the road shook violently in the sudden gust of wind.
“Boom!” Another deafening clap of thunder followed, accompanied by a blinding flash of light. The entire night lit up brightly, and the sudden downpour left Stella with no place to hide.
Before long, the rain drenched Stella completely. The car approaching from the opposite direction was none other than RK’s. He suddenly recognized the figure struggling in the heavy rain. As he got closer, he confirmed that it was indeed Stella.
Blinded by the headlights, Stella had to squint her eyes. RK parked the car by the roadside, got out with an umbrella, and walked towards her. Seeing the familiar figure approach, Stella felt a wave of relief.
RK opened the umbrella and positioned it to cover most of Stella’s head. He felt a surge of pity at how vulnerable she looked. “What’s wrong with you? Why didn’t you wait for me at the coffee shop?”
At that moment, Stella thought it wouldn’t take long for RK to arrive, so she had begun her walk back to the RK Mansion. However, she hadn’t expected to see him until three hours later.
Stella looked up at RK, silent. Noticing her lack of response, RK felt at a loss for words. As he saw Stella’s wet hair clinging to her forehead, he instinctively reached out to brush it aside.
Unexpectedly, Stella flinched away, watching his hand hover in the air. That pair of beautiful hands made her feel a mix of temptation and security. But when she recalled having held another woman’s hands, hugged, or even touched them that day, she questioned whether she could still accept this gesture from RK.

Stella pursed her lips, realizing that the more she thought about it, the more convinced she became that she shouldn’t have married him. A gust of wind swept by, making her shiver in embarrassment.
Frowning, RK pulled Stella under his umbrella and carried her to the car. He opened the door, helped her inside, and then settled into the driver’s seat.
As soon as he got in, RK removed his suit jacket and placed it over Stella. “Put it on,” he instructed.
Stella sat dazed in the passenger seat. The faint smell of tobacco wafted from his coat, and thinking of the scene she had witnessed at the airport that day, bitterness swelled in her heart.
RK glanced at Stella, who appeared disheveled. With winter approaching, she was only wearing a thin outfit in such cold weather. Despite his jacket draping over her, she continued to shiver. RK’s brows knitted tighter with concern.
He reached out to turn on the air conditioner, hoping the warmth would dispel the cold clinging to Stella. But above all, he needed her to change out of her wet clothes.
With that thought, he quickly turned the car toward the RK Mansion. Meanwhile, Stella, lost in thought, didn’t have the energy to notice the comedic scene unfolding.
She reflected that this was the third time she had been so close to RK since returning from World War II. The sky had rained twice, and she had once again found herself in such a miserable state.
Stella felt like she was living in a dream whenever she was with RK. By the time she regained her senses, the car had already stopped at the RK Mansion.
RK unbuckled his seatbelt, got out, and opened the door for Stella. “Get out of the car,” he urged. However, Stella remained still, staring at the rain-soaked gate of the RK Mansion, which suddenly seemed so distant.
RK couldn’t decipher her thoughts but frowned in concern. He unclipped the seatbelt around her waist, bent down, and lifted her into his arms.
Once inside, Aunt Maya rushed over upon seeing RK carrying Stella. “Aunt Maya, please cook a bowl of ginger soup for Madam,” RK instructed as he carried Stella upstairs.
Stella, stunned by RK’s sudden gesture, remained frozen in his arms. When they reached the bedroom, RK placed her on the sofa beside him and walked into the bathroom.
Stella sat on the sofa, surveying RK’s bedroom. It remained unchanged, just as she remembered it. Even the photograph of RK and Sophia on the desk was still there, prompting a self-deprecating laugh from her.
Yet, she could still recall the room’s layout from the nights she had spent there.
After RK emerged from the bathroom, he turned to Stella and said, “Go take a hot shower. Get out of your wet clothes; you’ll catch a cold if you don’t.”
Stella nodded, turning to walk into the bathroom. To her surprise, she found the bathtub already filled with water. She stepped in and tested the temperature—it was just right.
As she undressed and sank into the water, enveloped in the warmth, Stella felt comfort wash over her. The coldness slowly dissipated, and in the steam-filled air, she closed her eyes…
Feeling safe in the warm atmosphere, she drifted off to sleep.
RK watched as Aunt Maya brought over the ginger soup, which was now cooling. Yet, Stella hadn’t emerged yet.
RK stood from the sofa and approached the bathroom door, knocking gently. When he received no response, he opened the door and discovered Stella had fallen asleep in the bathtub.
RK walked over and shook her gently. When he found she didn’t respond, he touched her forehead, only to find it burning. He swiftly lifted her from the bathtub.
Striding out of the bathroom, he laid Stella on the bed, tucked her in, and grabbed his phone to call Evan.
As Evan picked up, RK quickly informed him to come to the RK Mansion—Stella was ill.
Upon hearing this, Evan disregarded the heavy rain outside and grabbed his coat, rushing to RK’s home.
By the way, I should mention that Evan was a doctor. RK looked down at Stella, her eyes closed, and felt an inexplicable ache for her.
Noticing Stella’s trembling figure, RK adjusted the air conditioning to its highest setting. Yet, Stella continued to shiver…
With no other option, RK stripped off his damp clothes and climbed into bed beside Stella, wrapping his arms around her to provide warmth.
