Chapter 289:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Ryland missed his chance to rise as CEO of Crestwave Group due to ongoing troubles in Fatima’s family.
“Are you defending her? Don’t you remember the torment she caused your mother?” Ryland coldly asked Nelson, touching on a sore subject.
Nelson’s face instantly shifted, his youthful look belying a formidable poise that Ryland could not match. “The way my mother died is clear to you,” Nelson replied, clenching his teeth, his words forceful.
Ryland, realizing the growth in his son, saw that Nelson’s assertive speech now posed a real threat to his authority. “The evidence is right before your eyes; can’t you see it?” Ryland retorted.
Disinterested in further discussion, Nelson turned away and walked upstairs.
Meanwhile, upstairs, Vicki comforted Nolan. “Nolan, all I want is for you to grow up safe and well.”
Nolan had begun to walk and occasionally utter words, captivating everyone he met. It was particularly surprising to Vicki that Nolan often said “brother” and “sister,” even though he hadn’t been taught these words by anyone.
Their quiet time was interrupted by a knock at the door.
After wiping away her tears, Vicki opened the door and was taken aback to see Nelson standing there. She glanced over her shoulder cautiously before asking, “Did you need something?”
Nelson noticed her cautious demeanor and felt slightly offended. “Just go see her. Ryland isn’t going to stop you.”
Vicki was momentarily puzzled. What was Nelson suggesting? Was he actually helping her?
Then it dawned on her—Ryland had refrained from hitting her when Nelson had shown up.

“Why are you helping me?” Vicki asked, struggling to trust anyone, especially members of the Brooks family.
Nelson silently regarded her, his attention shifting to Nolan, who had managed to sit up on his own.
In the peaceful, sky-blue nursery, Nolan sat on his little bed, gazing at Nelson with an intent, almost sweet expression.
Noticing where Nelson was looking, Vicki saw that Nolan had gotten up by himself.
“What’s going on, Nolan?” she asked.
Nolan smiled and pointed toward Nelson, saying, “Bro…ther.”
The revelation took both Vicki and Nelson by surprise.
Nelson had rarely been around Nolan, as Vicki had always been very protective of him. In their few previous meetings, Nolan had only quietly observed Nelson while he drank water. But this time, Nolan had unexpectedly called him “brother.”
