Chapter 1132:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
A few honeyed words from Kelsey and Jacob would no longer sway her.
Carrie’s voice drew him back to the present. “Still, it strikes me as odd that Kelsey and Jacob reached out to you so suddenly.”
Reece considered this, his brow furrowing slightly. “The timing does seem suspicious. The police are questioning the two groups they captured, and our family will conduct our own investigation into these individuals—perhaps we can trace the path back to”
Whoever orchestrated this. Our immediate concern is locating Lise, whether she’s breathing or not. We’ve already searched that cliff thoroughly. The drop is severe, with jagged rocks scattered below. Surviving such a fall would be miraculous, and the waves might have already claimed any remains. If that’s what happened, finding her becomes nearly impossible.”
Meanwhile, inside a weathered camper van, Lise sat wrapped in a towel, exhaustion etched into every line of her face.
Across from her lounged a man whose presence commanded attention despite his utterly forgettable features. His expression revealed nothing, and his aura radiated quiet authority. His face possessed such ordinary qualities that he could vanish into any crowd without leaving the faintest impression.
Lise cradled a cup of water between her trembling hands. After taking a careful sip, she ventured cautiously, “Who are you? What made you decide to save me?”
“Saving you wasn’t my choice—my boss made that call. Right now, every officer in the Isonridge police force and every member of the Morrison family is hunting for you. Step outside this camper, and you’ll find yourself in a police station within thirty minutes. Stay put, eat when you’re hungry, drink when you’re thirsty. If my boss has something to share with you, he’ll make contact. If not, keep your questions to yourself,” the man replied, his tone as flat as still water.
Upon hearing this, Lise remained silent. She reached for a dessert and asked, “Can I eat what’s in the car?”

The man blinked in surprise. He had braced himself for Lise to exploit this moment—perhaps demanding money or insisting on meeting his boss. Instead, she accepted the situation after asking just a few simple questions. Though caught off guard, he wasn’t about to complicate matters for himself. Lise’s calm reaction made his job infinitely easier.
His tone warmed considerably. “Everything in the car belongs to you now—food, toiletries, clothes. There’s also a bathroom and kitchen at your disposal.”
Lise nodded and tore into the dessert with eager bites, abandoning any pretense of manners. During her imprisonment, she hadn’t dreamed of luxury or mansions. She had craved clean food and fresh clothes. The simple pleasure of eating her fill and sleeping peacefully in a real bed outweighed everything else.
She felt no curiosity about his boss’s identity. They had orchestrated an elaborate rescue, which meant she still served a purpose. After all, if they wanted her dead, they wouldn’t have bothered with such complexity. They could have left her on that narrow ledge below the cliff or simply waited for the police to discover her corpse.
