Chapter 1216:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
She pushed the door open and saw him immediately, seated at a desk by the window. A dark gray knit cardigan hung loosely over his shoulders. His tall frame, once strong and solid, had grown thin, his clothes seeming to swallow him. The lamp on his desk cast only a faint glow, just enough to illuminate the book lying open before him.
He was wearing glasses. For a moment, he looked like a man drained of his youth, far older than his years.
She forced a small smile and walked over. “Are you trying to ruin your eyes, reading in this light?”
“I’m used to it.”

Ryan had already heard her approaching. He looked up only when she stopped beside him, removing his glasses as a gentle smile touched his lips. “What brings you up here? Something on your mind?”
“Mom asked me to come check what you wanted to wear so I can get your clothes packed.” She paused, then shot him a sideways glance. “But honestly, I don’t even know why I’m asking.”
She muttered, “You’re just as bad as Kyson. You’d both rather freeze than sacrifice an ounce of style. If I asked what you wanted to bring, you’d just pick whatever looked the most handsome.”
Ryan nodded in amused agreement. “So what are you planning to pick for me?”
“Well…”
Kailey turned and pulled open his wardrobe. She was met with rows of suits and dress shirts, almost all in dark, businesslike tones. Even his casual clothes were black, white, or gray.
“Okay, new plan. How about you just wear your winter pajamas? Layer a thick pair underneath, then throw your robe on top. That’ll definitely keep the cold out.”
With that, she started rifling through his closet.
Ryan looked torn between laughter and exasperation, but he made no move to stop her. He simply said, “A robe looks thick, but it won’t do much if the weather turns.”
Kailey stopped in her tracks. He had a point.
“Fine. Down jacket, plus a heavy-duty outdoor jacket.”
Ryan didn’t own a heavy-duty outdoor jacket, so she pulled out her phone, found two styles that would suit him, and placed an order for same-day delivery.
When the jackets arrived, she insisted he try them on, then packed them neatly into his bag. Finally, she added his medicine and a thick blanket.
Once everything was done, Kailey hauled the bag down to the first floor, clapped her hands together, and declared, “There! All set.”
Ryan and Kyson exchanged a knowing, amused look.
Sawyer had brought the company’s large van for the trip, which had just enough room for everyone.
But when Felicity arrived the next day, she wasn’t alone.
Everyone seemed to freeze for a moment. Kailey recovered first, clearing her throat. “I figured the car would be fine with Felicity riding along. But since Caspian is coming too, you two can take a separate car.”
Felicity walked over, her expression unreadable. “I’m riding with you. He can do whatever he wants.”
She leaned close to Kailey’s ear and whispered, “I told him not to come, but he insisted. I don’t even know why he’s here.”
