Chapter 619:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
It was the first time he had ever spoken to his older brother with such fury. The trust between them, forged over a lifetime, cracked in that moment.
Clarence sighed. “Garrett, this isn’t the time to argue. They need you to be calm.”
“Calm?” Garrett’s voice rose to a shout. “Take me to them! Now! Immediately!”
“Your leg—”
“I don’t care about my leg!” Garrett roared. “I will crawl to her bedside if I have to!”
Clarence knew he couldn’t be stopped, and relented. “Fine. Brighton General Hospital. Everything is arranged. Just come.”
Garrett hung up without another word and tossed the phone to Casey.
“Drive,” he commanded, his voice trembling.

Casey didn’t hesitate. He floored the accelerator, and the black Bentley shot into the rain-swept New York night like an arrow.
Garrett collapsed against the leather seat and closed his eyes. The rage receded, leaving behind a vast, cold ocean of fear and regret.
He couldn’t bear to imagine it. If Amelia hadn’t made it. If something had happened to the baby. The thought alone would unmake him.
He pulled out his own phone. The screen lit up with a photo of him and Amelia, her smile radiant. His finger trembled as he traced the curve of her cheek, and a tear, hot and sharp, finally escaped and rolled down his face. This man, so powerful in the world of business, was now as helpless as a child.
Meanwhile, in his office, Clarence issued a series of cold, precise orders to his assistant. “Freeze all cooperative projects linked to the Langley family. I want Brice Langley to pay the most painful price for what he’s done.”
The rift with his brother hadn’t slowed Clarence’s plans for retribution. It had only made them colder, harder.
The car sped through the rain. Garrett’s soul was trapped between heaven and hell. He was desperate to see Amelia and his child, and the thought of the suffering they had endured was a knife twisting in his heart.
“Faster,” he rasped at Casey. “Drive faster.”
He had never known time to move so slowly. Every second was a fresh torment.
He made a silent vow. When this was over, he would take Amelia and their child far away from all of this, to a place where no one could ever hurt them again.
Amelia floated in a white, weightless fog. She felt no pain, no gravity.
She was in a long, long dream. A dream of the car crash.
She dreamt she was trapped in the mangled steel, a sharp pain in her belly, the feeling of her life bleeding away.
She dreamt of a tiny, crying baby inside her, its voice so faint it seemed it could disappear at any moment.
She whispered desperately to the baby, “Don’t be afraid. Mommy’s here. Mommy will protect you.”
With every ounce of her will, she fought to break through the white fog, to get back to the real world, back to her child.
That powerful, primal drive pulled her slowly out of the depths of the anesthesia.
Her eyelids fluttered. With immense effort, she forced them open.
