Chapter 875: (END)
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
A voice, cold and sharp, cut through the air from the doorway. Kane stood there, his face a mask of ice, his eyes burning with something that scorched the space between them. He had heard her.
He walked into the room, his presence filling every corner of it. “You’re both doing fine? Is that why you ran? Why you became a deserter?” His voice was dangerously quiet.
“I did it to protect us both,” Haleigh said, her voice trembling slightly.
Kane let out a short, humorless laugh. “To protect us.” He stepped closer, forcing her to hold his gaze. “Let me tell you what I was doing back then, Haleigh. I was planning to hand over the company. I had a plan — to take you to Squamish, to start over somewhere new. I never, not for a single moment, thought about giving up on you.”
The truth hit her like a physical blow, knocking the air from her lungs. The justification she had clung to for six years — that she had left to save him — shattered completely. She had believed she was making a noble sacrifice. In reality, she had abandoned the escape they might have taken together.
Regret, sharp and overwhelming, flooded through her. “Kane… I’m sorry,” she whispered. The words tasted like ash.
He looked at her, the anger in his eyes warring with a wound that was six years old and still raw. “It doesn’t matter,” he said, his voice stripped bare. “No matter how much I hated you for leaving, the love I have for you never went away.”
The last of her composure broke. Tears she had held back for six long years streamed down her face — not of sorrow alone, but of a relief so overwhelming it was almost unbearable. The regret was still there, but it was now wrapped in the warmth of what he had just confessed.

“Kane,” she sobbed, barely a whisper. She took a step toward him, her hand reaching out as if to confirm he was real.
He closed the distance in an instant, pulling her into a fierce, desperate embrace. He buried his face in her hair, his arms locked around her as though afraid she might vanish again. “Don’t ever say we’re better off apart,” he murmured against her ear, his voice thick. “Not ever again.”
“I won’t,” she promised, holding on just as tightly. “I’m so sorry. I was so frightened. I thought I was losing you.”
In the corner of his eye, Kane saw his grandfather give a small, relieved nod before quietly slipping out of the study, leaving them alone with six years of silence to mend.
After a long moment, Haleigh pulled back slightly — though she didn’t leave his arms. Her eyes, still glistening, held a new resolve. “If we’re truly starting over,” she began, her voice unsteady, “there can be no more secrets. There’s something I should have told you a long time ago.”
Kane’s brow furrowed, his hands tightening on her arms. “What is it?”
She drew a deep, shaking breath. “Kane… I wasn’t pregnant with just one child.” Her voice dropped to barely a whisper. “We had twins.”
Kane went still. The world seemed to tilt. “What?” he breathed. “Twins?”
Haleigh nodded, fresh tears spilling. “Two boys. I named him Caleb. Our son Caleb — Liam has a twin brother. I’ve been raising him for the past six years.”
Kane stared at her, the shock so profound it left him entirely without words. Another son. A whole other life he had never known. A piece of his heart he hadn’t realized was missing. The initial sting of the secret was quickly overtaken by something far more complex — not anger, but a deep and aching grief for lost time, and beneath it, something fierce and bright and growing.
He reached out, his thumb gently tracing the tear from her cheek. When he finally found his voice, it was hoarse. “We have another son,” he said, as though testing the weight of the words. “His name is Caleb.”
He looked into her eyes, his own burning with a new and unshakeable purpose. “Bring him home, Haleigh. Tell me where he is.” His tone left no room for argument. “Our family needs to be whole.”
“All right,” Haleigh said softly. “Let everything that hurt us stay in the past. From now on, we live together — all of us.”
