He glanced around the room before looking in the direction the sound was coming from. There he saw a black box. He walked over, opened the box and began to study the electrical wiring inside.

As he did so, he commented, “This is an old-fashioned version. They don’t install new ones like this anymore, so I’m sure it’s been tricked. Here, I’m going to upgrade the system.”

As he spoke, he set to work.

Brenda opened and then closed her mouth as she looked at him, hesitating whether or not to speak. As she was about to say something, Solo said, “To be honest, you don’t have to feel so guilty about it. It was me who caused his death. If someone has to make up for it, I should be the one to do it, not you. You really don’t have to… make up for it with the rest of your life.”

Brenda closed her mouth.
