Chapter 1048:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
What confused him was that he had already accepted a life without children, so he could not understand why Cathryn insisted on keeping Kyla’s child. The baby carried his blood, but also Kyla’s — he could not even bring himself to face that reality. So how could Cathryn accept it so easily?
He remembered what Yasmine had said at the nightclub: no woman who truly loved her husband would accept his illegitimate child.
“I’ve already talked to your grandmother,” Cathryn said. “We’re keeping the child. There’s nothing more to discuss.”
Andrew clenched his teeth, the veins on his forehead standing out. Had Amanda really chosen this child over his relationship with Cathryn? No matter how much Amanda cared for Cathryn, it seemed it could not outweigh her belief in continuing the family line.
He remembered a nightmare he had once had. In it, Cathryn was in difficult labor, and the doctor asked whether to save the mother or the baby. Amanda had chosen the child without hesitation.

He had always wondered what Amanda would do if that nightmare became reality. Now, he knew. She would choose the child.
A heavy sadness settled over Andrew. It felt as though he was the only one who truly cared about his relationship with Cathryn. Yet, compared to a child, what they had together seemed to matter so much less.
Cathryn noticed the crisscrossed marks on Andrew’s back. “Do you want me to put some ointment on them?” she asked quietly.
“No need,” Andrew said coldly, pulling his clothes back on.
“Then I’ll go take a shower,” Cathryn said.
While Cathryn was in the shower, Andrew went to the living room. Amanda and Wade were sitting on the sofa, chatting.
When Amanda saw him, she huffed, “Have you treated your injuries with the ointment yet?”
“Yeah,” Andrew replied. Those minor wounds meant nothing to him. He had taken off his shirt in the bedroom solely to show Cathryn his injuries, hoping to stir some sympathy in her. Instead, they had ended up in a bitter argument.
Amanda thought back to the brutal way she had handled Andrew earlier. At the time, she hadn’t realized she had misunderstood him, and a small flicker of regret stirred in her chest. However, the reminder that he had fathered a child outside of his marriage convinced her that the punishment had been justified.
“I never would have fallen for Yasmine’s lies if you hadn’t already gotten involved with Kyla,” Amanda stated firmly.
“Are you actually suggesting that Kyla should have this baby?” Andrew asked, fixing a sharp, intense stare on her.
A muscle in Amanda’s lined face twitched. She wondered if he was implying that he had no desire for the child.
The possibility caught her completely off guard. Given that Cathryn had already agreed to take the baby in, she couldn’t understand why Andrew would refuse. He was the father. Furthermore, there was a strong chance this would be the only child he ever had. If they got rid of this baby and Cathryn remained unable to conceive, he would end up with no descendants at all.
While Amanda did not care deeply about carrying on the family name, she felt it was a shame to let Andrew’s qualities go to waste.
