Chapter 1062:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Cathryn’s account was out of her reach on the platform, but Sophie’s was not. Kyla adjusted the privacy settings so only Sophie could see it, then set the phone down and glanced toward the window. The paparazzi she had hired were already gone.
Andrew remained in the bathroom through the entire night, enduring the cold water until the suffering grew unbearable, then drawing the knife across his arm once more to keep his mind clear. It was the only way he could hold on.
By the time morning finally broke, the night’s torment had run its course.
Andrew splashed water over his face and stepped out of the bathroom.
Kyla was sitting on the floor, arms wrapped around her abdomen. She looked up at him weakly. “Mr. Brooks — my stomach hurts. Down low.”
Andrew’s expression didn’t waver. “I won’t be fooled again.”

Yosef’s call came through. “Mr. Brooks, the car is waiting at the entrance.”
Andrew took hold of Kyla and steered her toward the exit.
Yosef’s eyes went wide when he saw the state of Andrew’s arm — the cuts, the dried blood — but he said nothing.
“Olekgan Hospital,” Andrew said flatly as he got into the car.
At the hospital, he brought Kyla directly to the obstetrics department. “End the pregnancy,” he told the attending doctor.
The doctor and several nurses escorted Kyla into an examination room. Andrew waited.
When the doctor returned, his expression was measured. “Ms. Clifford doesn’t require the procedure, Mr. Brooks.”
Andrew’s brows drew together. “Explain.”
“The child is already gone. It appears she miscarried last night.”
Andrew was silent for a moment. Had the struggle from the night before caused it? He didn’t know. But it was done, and it simplified everything.
The doctor’s eyes moved to the injuries on Andrew’s arm. “Come with me. Let me treat those.”
With Kyla’s pregnancy no longer hanging over him, Andrew followed the doctor into the examination room without argument.
Cathryn had not slept. Her body ached, and nausea moved through her in restless waves. Every time she closed her eyes, her thoughts circled back to the same question — had Andrew actually gone to Kyla? Kyla had wanted him for so long. Would she really have let an opportunity like that pass?
Regret pressed heavily on her. She should never have agreed to any of it — not letting Kyla stay at Brooks Manor, not pushing Andrew toward her that night. Amanda had been right. Nothing unraveled a relationship faster than doubt left to fester in the dark.
She was still awake at dawn when Margaret appeared in the doorway. “Kyla has lost the baby.”
Cathryn sat up sharply. “What happened?”
“Yosef says Mr. Brooks brought her to the hospital early this morning. They’re still there.”
Cathryn was on her feet before Margaret finished speaking. “We’re going.”
By the time they arrived at the obstetrics department, Kyla had just been wheeled out of the operating room. Cathryn crossed the room quickly. “What happened to the child? What happened last night?”
Kyla’s expression held no grief. A faint flush touched her cheeks as she replied, her voice soft and deliberate, “It was because of Mr. Brooks.”
Cathryn’s brows pulled together. What was she implying?
