Chapter 409:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Candice’s face contorted with hatred as she seethed, “It was your mother! At that moment, only she and I were standing outside the banquet hall.”
“What are you saying? No!” Milton stood rooted to the spot, his mind awhirl with disbelief.
He had considered every conceivable scenario, except for this one. He never anticipated that it would be his own mother, Erica, who was responsible for this.
How could it be possible? It seemed implausible.
She was the kindest person he knew, someone who wouldn’t hurt a fly, let alone a child. How could he believe it? How could he even fathom the possibility of his mother doing such a terrible thing? But Candice’s words were like a sharp slap to his face. He knew she wouldn’t lie.
He struggled to find an excuse, but none came. He parted his lips, but no words escaped them.
“Leave. I don’t want to see you again,” Candice said icily, her eyes glittering with a cold light.
Milton felt heartbroken for the distraught woman before him. He yearned to comfort her, attempting to do so several times before ultimately relenting. She wouldn’t heed his words now. He remembered that he had called Erica several times, but she didn’t answer. First, he needed to unravel what had transpired. “I’ll visit you later,” he murmured.
With heavy steps, he turned, opened the VIP ward door, and departed. Upon closing the door, Milton found himself face to face with Greyson. He was uncertain how long Greyson had been lingering there. Milton’s piercing gaze narrowed as he inquired, “Why are you here?”
Greyson snapped back, “This is my hospital. I can be here anytime I want. Do I need to inform you?”
Milton’s expression darkened. “Greyson, I know about your divorce. You’ve clung to the idea of being her husband for far too long. You’ve gone too far. As your relationship has ended, I suggest you maintain your distance and let her be. Cease disrupting her life any further.”

Greyson’s temples throbbed with irritation. His divorce from Candice had been revealed at the birthday party, leaving him feeling cornered. He hadn’t anticipated Milton would learn of it so swiftly. Refusing to appear weak, Greyson retorted, “Marriage and divorce are just procedures. Who’s to say I won’t remarry her?”
“That’s funny,” Milton sneered. “Remarry her? Are you delusional? I am her fiancé now! You’re nothing more than her—”
Greyson’s frown deepened as he recalled Madilyn’s words at the police station.
“Greyson! Even if you leave me, you can’t be with Candice. You can’t compete with Milton. Candice has already fallen in love with him! Don’t be foolish! She doesn’t love you anymore! Don’t you understand?”
Greyson clenched his fists, knuckles cracking.
“You’re her fiancé? Does Candice acknowledge that?” he spat disdainfully. “Then why did she claim she never wanted to see you just moments ago?”
Milton’s countenance shifted instantly. Clearly, Greyson had overheard his conversation with Candice.
