Chapter 473:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Khloe smiled coolly. “And what happens to you if you lose?”
A brief flash of anger passed through Artist’s eyes. “I won’t lose!”
Khloe stayed calm, not bothering to argue further. Her focus was on getting Conroy to overturn the new drug regulation, and she’d have plenty of chances to expose Artist as a fraud pretending to be Magician’s student.
Khloe then turned to Richard. “Mr. Smith, since it’s a competition, why don’t you act as the judge?”
Richard had already considered it himself. Even though Artist claimed to be Magician’s student, she was not Magician himself. Richard was eager to assess her skills for himself.
Richard had wondered if Artist was working with Conroy to deceive him, but he trusted his own judgment and the power of Ouiswell. Conroy would never risk fooling him—he could withstand the consequences of angering an entire country.
Richard nodded in agreement. “Since you suggested it, I’ll serve as the judge. How about we make tumor excision the focus of this competition?”
” Tumor excision?”
A collective gasp echoed through the crowd in shock.
Tumor excision was a highly complex and risky procedure, where even the smallest error could put the patient’s life in danger. Choosing it as the competition topic was undoubtedly the ultimate test of a doctor’s skill. Besides, the fact that Richard could so easily find a tumor patient willing to participate was astonishing, a testament to his vast network and influence.
Artist stared at Richard in disbelief. “Old man, do you really have such a case? That’s one rare patient.”
Richard chuckled. “Perhaps you haven’t heard of my reputation during your travels with your teacher. I have plenty of volunteer patients. This one has been under my care for a long time, taking part in my drug trials. Unfortunately, he’s been battling terminal cancer, and medication alone can no longer keep him going. But today, it seems fate has brought Magician’s student here, possibly offering him a chance at a new life.”
Richard spoke kindly to Artist, clearly willing to believe in her identity. “You will both perform the surgery, and I will judge the results based on the outcomes.”

Neither Khloe nor Artist objected.
Richard made a quick call, and before long, the door to the hall opened, and a patient was wheeled in slowly.
The crowd stood in shock when they saw the patient. Khloe’s eyes darkened a little as she took in the sight. The terminal cancer patient turned out to be a child.
With golden hair and bright green eyes, the child was undeniably beautiful. He looked no older than seven, but his frail body, barely more than skin and bones, told a different story. Years of illness had drained him of the usual energy children radiate. Instead, a cloud of persistent sadness hung over him, making his presence seem more like that of a much older soul.
As the child was wheeled to the center of the hall, the room seemed to fall into an eerie stillness. It was almost impossible to believe that such a young child was so close to the end of his life. Even though everyone in the room was a doctor, used to seeing patients pass, their hearts still ached for this child.
Khloe was the first to speak, her voice gentle as she asked, “What is the child’s condition? May I see the medical records?”
Richard signaled for his assistant to pass the medical records to Khloe. She took the records and began reading them carefully, her frown growing deeper with each page she turned. The tumor was highly malignant, the images revealing it pressing against his organs. The only somewhat hopeful sign was that it hadn’t spread yet. Had this been three years ago, Khloe would have found the case just as challenging, possibly even impossible to treat. Thankfully, she now felt confident in her ability to handle the case.
Artist moved around the child like an appraiser, her eyes scanning him with a mix of intrigue and detachment. “This is a tough case. It’s been a while since I faced something so challenging.”
