Chapter 569:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
“Shall I play the violin for you, then?” Renee tried to divert his attention, hoping to please him.
But his lack of interest was obvious.
Suddenly, she remembered Jessica’s skill as a violinist and realized Marcelo must have heard her play countless times. Compared to that, Renee’s own ability would hardly stand out. How could she possibly captivate him with it?
“If you’ve already heard the banjo, maybe I could play the cello for you. I’m good at that too,” she offered.
“Instruments can’t compare to your allure,” Marcelo replied, his words almost hypnotic.
Renee fell silent.
She’d been trying to talk about art in earnest, not expecting the conversation to veer into suggestive teasing.
With mischief in his eyes, Marcelo murmured, “Can you really discuss art while you’re pressed against me naked, sweetheart?”
Caught off guard, Renee couldn’t find an answer. She was still trying to figure out how to escape when her phone rang insistently, offering a much-needed distraction.

Renee pushed against Marcelo, attempting to shove him aside, but he didn’t budge. If anything, his weight settled even more firmly.
Helpless, Renee looked at him with pleading eyes. “Please, not now. It’s Susanna.”
Impatience flickered across Marcelo’s face. He idly toyed with Renee’s hair, his frustration unmistakable.
“Hello, Susanna,” Renee greeted, her voice strained.
“Renee, I heard you and Mr. King attended a school performance today! Would you like to join us for a late-night snack?” Susanna sounded unusually cheerful. “Daniel said he’s treating!”
Renee’s breath hitched. “Daniel?!”
Susanna had no idea what kind of “late-night snack” Renee and Marcelo were already having.
“Tell her we’re already indulging in a late-night snack,” Marcelo muttered gruffly. “Tell her not to disturb us.”
“We are not…” Renee began to protest, but the moment she understood what he meant by “late-night snack,” she fell silent.
Her cheeks burned. She shot Marcelo a scathing glare.
“We’ve already returned home,” Renee said, her voice quivering with guilt. “Maybe another time?”
“Then another time it is!” Susanna replied, and ended the call. She turned to the man beside her.
“Renee said another time. She and Mr. King are already home,” Susanna said thoughtfully. “I think Mr. King even mentioned they were having a late-night snack. What a coincidence!”
Daniel was disappointed he wouldn’t get to see Renee, but Susanna’s last comment made him raise an eyebrow.
“Why do you suddenly look so annoyed?” Susanna asked, confused.
“It’s… it’s nothing,” Daniel muttered.
It wasn’t that Daniel was overthinking. As a man, hearing Marcelo say they were “having a late-night snack” at such a late hour inevitably sparked certain assumptions. Even though Renee and Marcelo were legally married, the thought still left him uneasy.
After hanging up, Renee lightly slapped Marcelo’s arm. “What nonsense are you saying?”
Marcelo snorted, as if mocking her supposed innocence.
“Then let’s stop talking and get into action.”
Before he could finish, the phone rang again.
This time, it was Marcelo’s phone.
Seeing his expression darken, Renee felt a flicker of amusement—until Marcelo rolled over, pulled her into his arms, and pinched her waist.
Ticklish, Renee instinctively squirmed, and in doing so, she unintentionally sparked something playful between them. The moment she sensed the growing intimacy, she didn’t dare move again.
Marcelo answered the call, and Luke’s anxious voice came through the line. “Boss, something happened to your grandfather!”
At a high-end private hospital in Bellbanks, Gary and his family waited anxiously outside the operating room.
“Grandpa’s not going to… die, is he?” Andrew asked his father, his voice trembling with fear.
“Be quiet!” Gary snapped, casting a tense glance at the red light above the operating room.
Andrew looked around and, seeing they were alone, lowered his voice. “To be honest, bringing him here might have been a mistake… especially since he favors Marcelo.”
