Chapter 573:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Marcelo pulled Renee back and kissed her forehead. “Let’s go to bed.”
In his heart, he added, “Thank you, love.”
In the days that followed, neither Renee nor Marcelo brought up what had happened to Paul.
After class, Renee became the target of her juniors’ playful teasing.
“Renee, your husband didn’t come today?”
Renee simply smiled and didn’t answer, heading to the faculty lounge instead.
Marcelo was there, still on the phone. After a brief “Okay,” he ended the call.

Renee was about to tell him he didn’t need to follow her around every day, but Marcelo spoke first.
“Do you have any plans later?”
“Hm, no,” she replied.
“Then let’s do something fun.”
Susanna, who had been hoping to invite Renee out herself, let out a resigned sigh. Another attempt ruined.
After she parted ways with Renee, Susanna called Daniel to complain about her latest failed plan for a dinner.
Daniel, who seemed to have expected it, said calmly, “With the King family in such chaos, it makes sense that Marcelo and Renee are distracted.”
“Daniel, you’ve been way too concerned about Renee lately,” Susanna shot back. “You’re not having inappropriate thoughts, are you? Remember, she’s a married woman!”
Daniel fell silent, at a complete loss. He wished he could understand what was going on in Susanna’s head.
Meanwhile, Paul’s condition continued to deteriorate with no sign of improvement. With the family in desperate need of leadership, the senior members gathered to decide who would serve as interim head of the King family.
Marcelo was among the last to arrive. Nearly thirty people were already in the room.
Two chairs had been placed at the head of the table. One was already occupied by Gary, and the other was clearly meant for Marcelo. Renee, unaware of what the meeting was about, followed Marcelo into the room. Her presence immediately drew quiet attention from everyone gathered.
To her confusion, Marcelo guided her to sit beside Gary.
Renee’s mouth fell open. She was completely bewildered.
Was this Marcelo’s idea of “something fun”?
Gary spoke up, irritation obvious in his tone. “Marcelo, surely a discussion about family matters isn’t appropriate for Renee. She has no place here.”
The message was clear: he was challenging Marcelo by targeting Renee.
“Exactly!” several others echoed at once.
Marcelo rested a hand casually on the back of Renee’s chair and replied evenly, “My wife owns a private island, along with numerous other properties. Can any of you say the same? Who here is qualified to question her presence?”
Gary and Andrew’s expressions darkened at once.
If even the two of them didn’t have a private island, how could the rest of the King family? Despite the family’s name and influence, most of them lived off dividends and status tied to the corporation, without much liquid wealth of their own.
A private island wasn’t something they could buy on a whim.
Renee finally understood what Marcelo was doing.
He had promised to take her out for something enjoyable.
If this was his version of fun, then she was ready to play along.
“Buying a private island and properties is just a matter of money,” one of Gary’s supporters sneered. “But can Mrs. King even understand what we’re discussing without a background in financial management?”
“Actually, managing Venus Bar has gone quite well for me,” Renee replied, settling into her seat with a relaxed air. She propped her chin on her hand, her tone pleasant. “I was hoping to learn a few business management tips from everyone.”
Her eyes flicked toward the man who had spoken.
“If I remember correctly, Uncle, you’ve had representatives contact Manager Harry at Venus Bar, expressing interest in investing in my little bar, haven’t you?”
