Chapter 579:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Joselyn adjusted the phone angle, revealing Marcelo standing a step behind her, a faint smile playing on his lips.
He was laughing at her. The audacity.
Renee’s jaw tightened, her teeth practically clenched.
“It’s no problem,” Joselyn said lightly. “I’m a professor at the University of Livbon, and resigning is such a hassle. I needed Marcelo’s help.”
“Ms. King, I apologize. I truly didn’t know it was you…” Renee blurted out again, mortified.
Joselyn, completely unbothered by the awkwardness, handed the phone back to Marcelo.

The more confidently Renee had confronted him at first, the more embarrassed—and irritated—she felt now.
And the person responsible for all of it looked like he was enjoying the show.
“Renee,” Marcelo said with maddening certainty, “you’re jealous.”
“Marcelo, it seems you don’t want a wife anymore.”
Renee ended the call without another word. Then she carried out her threat and blocked Marcelo on WhatsApp for three days.
Left staring at a dead screen, Marcelo tried to send another message. A notification popped up: “Message was rejected by the recipient.”
He fell silent, speechless.
“Your wife is quite adorable,” Joselyn said, her tone amused. “I always heard Miss Hudson was dignified and reserved. It seems rumors can be deceiving.” Her gaze flicked pointedly toward Marcelo’s legs.
So rumors really were unreliable.
Even Marcelo’s supposed disability had been nothing but an act.
Marcelo didn’t respond, but his expression said everything. To him, his wife really was adorable.
“I can go back and take over the King family’s affairs, to repay Seb for everything he did for me,” Joselyn said, her tone turning serious. “But you need to think carefully about how you’ll handle your mother.”
Joselyn already held a Ph.D. in finance and worked as an associate professor in the University of Livbon’s School of Economics and Management. Managing a company, to her, would be a relatively simple matter.
However, Jessica was Marcelo’s only weakness. Once Joselyn returned, the dynamics within the King family would inevitably shift. There was no guarantee that Gary and the others wouldn’t target Jessica.
“I’ll take care of it,” Marcelo said simply.
Joselyn only nodded, not pressing him for details.
She didn’t feel particularly close to him, but her decision to return and help was entirely because of Sebastian.
During Joselyn’s postpartum period, her mother—who had once served as their father’s secretary—had endured relentless hostility from Gary’s mother. The pressure worsened her health, and she died only a few years later. As an outsider in the King family, Joselyn had owed much of her safety in childhood to Sebastian.
“Miss Lambert’s birthday party is today,” Joselyn said. “When will you send your gift?”
Joselyn had also received an invitation from Vivian.
“This was prepared by my brother before he passed away,” Marcelo explained. “It’s his last gift to her.” He presented an exquisitely wrapped box. Inside was a ruby the size of a pigeon’s egg. “Please deliver it on my behalf.”
“Of course,” Joselyn replied, surprised. “Wouldn’t you rather give it to her yourself? Miss Lambert might be disappointed.”
Marcelo met her gaze, his expression unreadable.
Realizing she had said the wrong thing, Joselyn quickly added, “You were always kind to her. I just thought… maybe you might marry her.”
“That’s out of the question.”
The idea had never even crossed his mind.
Joselyn let out a soft, amused laugh.
Even with his firm denial, many people—including Joselyn herself, and Vivian—had once believed Vivian would become Mrs. King.
Vivian’s birthday celebration was held at a luxurious mansion in Livbon.
