Chapter 583:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
After a moment, Flossie gathered her courage and looked up. “I know all of that, but Renee… I’ve loved him for ten years. I want to fight for him. He wasn’t like this before. Maybe I’m the one who can make him change.”
“You…” Renee was stunned into silence.
Ten years. That wasn’t a short time in anyone’s life.
After a long pause, Renee finally said, “All right. I’ll help you this time.”
“Thank you, Renee.” Flossie threw her arms around her, her happiness obvious in the tight embrace.
After they parted ways, Renee went back to Daniel and Susanna.
“Sorry that took so long. What did you want to talk about?”
Susanna smiled, easy and carefree. “Nothing. I was just passing by and thought I’d see if I could catch you. Didn’t Mr. King leave on a business trip? I’m here to keep you company.”
“How about we have some tea at my place?” Renee suggested, since they were already in her neighborhood. She half expected Daniel to refuse, but to her surprise, he agreed without hesitation.

Renee was momentarily speechless. Wasn’t Daniel usually reluctant to visit other people’s homes?
As they walked, Daniel brought up a topic with Renee. “That Miss Yount… she was Levy’s girlfriend, wasn’t she?”
“Ex-girlfriend,” Renee corrected.
“Miss Yount and Levy grew up together, right? I thought Levy would end up with her this time.”
Daniel’s curiosity about Renee’s life—and the people around her—had led him to dig up quite a bit. Since he was trying to identify who had tampered with the evidence, he kept close tabs on Renee’s acquaintances.
Renee looked at him with a mix of surprise and curiosity. “You know about Levy and Flossie?”
A flicker of pride crossed Daniel’s face, as if he was pleased to be useful. “They went to the same middle school. But Levy was known for being a troublemaker back then—difficult to deal with. He probably didn’t interact much with Miss Yount.”
Renee’s thoughts drifted back to Flossie’s confession—ten years of feelings for Levy—so different from what most people assumed about her and
Levy’s interactions with her… it had only been the beginning of their story.
When they stepped out of the elevator, Renee unlocked her door. “Please, come in. I’ll get you—”
Her words cut off abruptly.
Marcelo was sprawled on the sofa, still in his shirt and trousers. He looked up at the sound of the door.
“When did you get back?” he asked.
Renee couldn’t stop the smile that spread across her face at the sight of him.
He had planned to surprise her, never expecting her to be out. He’d decided to wait for her return, unaware she would be bringing company home.
Marcelo’s expression was unreadable as his gaze moved to the unexpected guests behind Renee. Susanna felt a flicker of unease and was about to suggest postponing their plans when Daniel stepped forward and broke the tension.
“Hello, Mr. King,” Daniel greeted casually.
Five minutes later, Daniel and Susanna were seated on the living room sofa as if they belonged there.
Renee was about to pour them water when she realized, to her horror, that she only had two cups in the entire house. Heat rushed to her cheeks.
Marcelo, watching quietly, reconsidered his earlier impression that the living room had plenty of seating. Suddenly, it felt a bit too crowded.
“Mr. King, may I have a word with you?” Daniel said, clearly asking for a private conversation.
Renee went to the fridge and managed to find two bottles of mineral water. When she returned, she saw the two men stepping out onto the balcony, already deep in conversation.
Out on the balcony, Daniel didn’t bother with niceties. “Mr. King, I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t stand a chance with my little sister, Renee, if you weren’t as lucky as you are to be with her now,” he said bluntly.
Marcelo’s gaze sharpened. “And when are you planning to tell her the truth?”
