Chapter 589:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
Two hours later, Harry called Renee back.
“Ms. Hudson, the King family kept Sebastian’s death tightly under wraps, so most people never even noticed. But I did find something strange. Before he died, Sebastian visited a psychological clinic several times with his girlfriend. And yes—the patient records match Sebastian.”
“A psychological clinic?” Renee echoed, her curiosity instantly piqued.
“Yes. I got that from a patron,” Harry said. “But the clinic’s privacy policies are strict. That’s as far as I could go.”
Sebastian’s girlfriend back then—Vivian—now seemed like a crucial thread in unraveling the past.

After the call, Renee sank onto the couch and stared at the ceiling.
The idea of contacting Vivian made her stomach turn. Vivian was the last person Renee wanted to deal with, yet she also seemed like the most promising lead.
Marcelo noticed Renee’s distracted expression and walked over, his tone teasing. “Renee, should I keep you busy so you won’t have time to worry?”
Caught off guard, Renee shot him a guarded look and deflected, “I’m thinking about tomorrow’s exam.”
That part was true. She had scheduled her students’ final exam for the next day.
“Congratulations on finishing the course,” Renee said as she collected their papers. “I hope you all do well.”
An odd tension lingered in the classroom. The students exchanged glances, then looked at Renee with concern.
They all knew about her relationship with Marcelo.
“Class dismissed,” Renee said with a smile. “I wish all of you—and myself—a bright future.”
She hurried them out, unwilling to discuss the scandals surrounding Marcelo.
“Renee, I believe in you and Mr. King,” one student suddenly said, breaking the silence.
“Mr. King’s innocence isn’t in doubt for me either,” another added.
“Me too.”
“Same here.”
One voice after another rose, filling the room with unexpected solidarity.
Warmth spread through Renee’s chest. “Thank you,” she said softly.
After most of the students left, Susanna stepped closer, worry plain on her face. “Renee… are you really okay?”
Before Renee could answer, Daniel walked in.
“Do you need my help?” he asked.
Renee was grateful, but she stayed firm. “Not right now.”
Marcelo had too many responsibilities at KM Group, so Renee had asked him not to skip work just to drive her to class.
The moment she stepped out of the school, she was met by a swarm of reporters.
They surged forward in a chaotic wave, shouting questions as cameras flashed and microphones pushed into her space.
Caught off guard, Renee misstepped at the edge of the stairs and lost her balance.
“Elsie!” Daniel’s voice sliced through the noise as he reached out and caught her arm. His face tightened with concern.
The reporters didn’t back off. Their questions came like blades.
“Renee, did you know your husband, Mr. Marcelo King, is mentally ill?”
“Are you afraid to sleep beside a man who was once accused of setting a fire and killing someone?”
“Are you going to divorce him?”
The barrage kept coming, sharp and relentless.
Pain stabbed through Renee’s right ankle, but she stayed upright, leaning on Daniel for support.
“Are you okay?” Daniel asked quietly, his worry obvious as he noticed her wince.
Renee only shook her head, already suspecting she had sprained it.
“What did you call me just now?” she asked him under her breath. “I didn’t catch it.”
“Um… Rere,” Daniel lied smoothly. “It’s what Susanna calls you.”
“Renee, do you have any comment on the controversy surrounding your husband?”
“Renee, can you tell us where Marcelo is right now? Why hasn’t he made a statement?”
“Is it true your husband is mentally ill? Did he manipulate the psychiatric evaluation to avoid legal consequences?”
Renee turned to the reporters with an icy stare, refusing to flinch.
