Chapter 496:

From her past experiences, rejecting him seemed like the only choice. But she couldn’t bring herself to say the words.
Time passed, and Kellan remained silent, watching her. She met his gaze, finally speaking.
“I need time to think.”
“How long?” he pressed, his tone unwavering.
She pushed him back a step, trying to maintain some distance. “Depends on my mood.”
Her thoughts were a tangled mess.
“Until I make up my mind, Mr. Lloyd, try not to hover around me. It might sway my decision.”
But Kellan didn’t back down. “Do you remember our deal to be a couple for a day, Ms. Clarke?”
Allison hesitated, though she had no intention of breaking their agreement.
“When are you free?”
“Tomorrow,” he replied, a slight smirk tugging at his lips. “Or even now.”
“Tomorrow,” she sighed, rolling her eyes. “And you can plan the details. I don’t need to be consulted.”

Just as she finished, she saw Gordon approaching.
“Allison!” Gordon called, his brow furrowed. He looked at Kellan with an icy glare, as if fearing she’d been mistreated.
“Am I late? Are you okay?”
“Nothing serious,” she replied calmly. “And Miss Perry?”
Gordon’s voice held a note of satisfaction. “I gave her a gift. She’s likely in the hospital for a few days. Mr. Lloyd, you’re not upset, are you?”
Kellan’s expression remained steely. “I have no interest in Carole’s affairs. The Herbert family values shouldn’t permit you to disrupt others at will.”
“It is rude,” Gordon agreed with a smile, “but Allison’s not ‘others.’”
Neither man showed any sign of backing down, and Allison finally snapped.
“Both of you, quiet.”
It felt like history repeating itself. She turned to Gordon.
“Let’s get to the point.”
Gordon hesitated. “But Kellan’s here…”
“It doesn’t matter. He’s going to Vrining too. We’re… in a partnership now.”
A partnership?
The word left both men visibly grim.
After a moment, Gordon handed Allison a document.
