Chapter 740:
🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙 🍙
His curiosity hadn’t faded. Who had confronted his boss on the day the lab lost power? And who had managed to hurt him? After all, even with the mafia all around, the man in front of him could still defeat anyone.
Verruckt, his face blank, said flatly, “Keep searching.”
His finger drummed lightly on the table. “It seems the most likely culprit is someone from inside. She’s probably not from Immortality Pharmaceuticals.”
Jareth nodded. The mystery of the woman was growing deeper.
“Where’s Alice?” Verruckt asked out of the blue.
Jareth paused, momentarily caught off guard. He glanced at Allison’s desk and realized that it was empty.
“She might be in the break room. I know she loves her coffee,” he said, though he had no real clue where Alice was.
Seeing his boss’s cold expression, Jareth wondered if Alice had caused more trouble and possibly brought trouble to him as well.
“Do you want me to bring her back now?” he asked, unsure.
Luckily, Verruckt’s voice stayed steady, with no hint of anger. “No need. Just remind her not to cause any more trouble in the break room,” Verruckt said flatly.

His tone didn’t change, but it was clear that he wasn’t scolding her.
“Got it.”
Jareth sighed in relief and quickly turned to leave. Not long after, he spotted Allison near the elevator.
“Alice, what are you up to?”
Allison was looking at the lab’s layout and gave a sheepish smile. “Sorry, I’m just a little on edge. I was daydreaming, wondering if someone from the mafia might burst in here,” she explained.
Jareth sighed, still puzzled about why Verruckt had given her a house. She was so naive, so easy to fool.
“Of course not. The lab’s security system is top-notch.” He hardly ever explained things, but he added, “If anyone tries to break in, the infrared system will slice them in half.”
“Will they really be cut in half?” Allison asked, her voice filled with worry. “What about—”
“Don’t worry. The system’s off switch is with Mr. Shaw. As long as you’re with him, you’ll be safe.”
Jareth didn’t pay much attention to his own words as he hurried to get her back to work.
Allison glanced toward Verruckt’s office and casually said, “Then Mr. Shaw won’t forget to bring it, right? Like yesterday, in the container—”
