Chapter 759:

But Colton’s frown deepened. “No, I don’t think so. Haven’t you noticed it? Ever since the divorce…” He couldn’t finish his thought.
Since the divorce, Allison had made it clear that they didn’t owe each other anything. Her coldness, her lack of warmth, hit him all at once.
He had always thought she was just being stubborn, but now he saw the truth — she had truly moved on.
“Colton, what are you saying?” Melany asked, her voice trembling. “Are you starting to doubt me?”
Colton quickly realized that he had come off too cold. “Of course not,” he quickly corrected himself. “I just think it’s a bit… odd, not that I doubt you.”
But Melany wasn’t convinced. Tears welled up in her eyes as she pushed, saying, “Odd? Colton, if you think my words are strange, why not just ask Allison yourself?”
Meanwhile, Allison, noticing the tension, quietly stepped toward the window. She pretended to water the plants, wanting no part in their uncomfortable moment.
Colton, feeling awkward, gave her a mixed look and said, “There’s no need to ask her. You’re my wife.”
In truth, he had briefly thought about confronting Allison directly. But he knew that even if he called her from someone else’s phone, she would hang up on him without a second thought once she heard his voice.

“Colton, if I had known you still cared so much about Allison, I never would have fallen for you,” Melany said, her voice clearly hurt.
She pressed her hand over the scar on her abdomen, tears streaming down her face. “I shouldn’t have carried you to safety in that alley five years ago. If I hadn’t, we wouldn’t have met.” She brought it up on purpose, knowing it was Colton’s sore spot. Sure enough, as soon as she mentioned the events from five years ago, guilt crossed Colton’s face.
“I’m sorry for what I said,” he muttered, regret washing over him. “I didn’t mean to upset you.”
Truthfully, he still struggled to believe that Allison could be so cruel. But Melany’s words stirred something inside him, making him blame himself. How could he doubt his own wife?
After all, five years ago, it was Melany who had carried him to safety with nothing but her fragile strength.
“Melany, I swear, from now on, you’re the only one who matters to me,” Colton said gently, pulling her closer with his arm around her shoulders. “So please, don’t be upset anymore, alright?”
Melany took a deep breath and slowly relaxed. “Colton, I just love you so much, it makes me feel insecure,” she confessed. She rested her head on his shoulder, a cold smile barely touching her lips.
