Chapter 760:

It was a trick she knew would always work.
But their words struck Allison, who had been nearby, leaving her completely stunned.
Five years ago, wasn’t it Allison who had saved Colton?
At that time, Allison had been the one to pull him from the alley. Once she had made sure that he was safe, she had gone back to confront the group of robbers. But when she came back, Colton was already gone. To her surprise, Melany claimed the credit for what Allison had done.
Allison felt an urge to call out her lie right then and there. Yet, amidst all the swirling emotions, she couldn’t help but find the situation painfully ironic.
What was the use? For the past three years, she had tried to explain everything, but Colton never trusted her. In fact, he only grew more contemptuous. Now, they were completely apart, and she had found someone who truly meant something to her. As for Colton, he would eventually face the consequences of his own stupidity.
“If there’s nothing else, I’ll be on my way,” Allison said, choosing to stay quiet and not reveal her true identity. Rather than obsessing over the past, she decided to use these two people to complete her plan.
After leaving the reception room, she deliberately made her way to the break room. She poured herself a cup of hot coffee, then, without hesitation, spilled it over her hand. The coffee wasn’t boiling, but her hand reddened almost immediately.
She quickly ran her hand under cold water, then carelessly tossed the coffee cup aside. It wasn’t until the burn became more visible that she purposefully hid her hand and left the break room.

To her surprise, she bumped into Jareth.
“Hello, Mr. Williamson,” she said, offering her injured hand and motioning behind her. “Don’t you usually get your coffee on the first basement level?”
That was one of Jareth’s habits. As the manager of the first basement level, he hadn’t even bothered to set up a workspace on the second basement level. Jareth didn’t respond to her question. Instead, he noticed her hand, which was now covered.
“What happened to your hand?” Jareth asked.
“It’s… it’s nothing,” Allison answered, awkwardly lowering her hand, looking like someone who had been hurt but was too afraid to speak up. “I’ll just be on my way.” She tried to walk past him and leave.
But he stepped in front of her, pointing to her hand without any hesitation. “I’m not doing this for you,” he said, “but I’m worried Mr. Shaw will blame me for not looking after the staff.” The red swelling on her hand was hard to miss.
Jareth’s face grew serious. “What’s going on? Haven’t you only been drinking iced coffee lately?”
