Chapter 836:

Verruckt narrowed his eyes. “You think you know me, do you?”
“Of course not,” Allison responded, her fleeting sentimentality turning into a pout. “Before I went to the club, I thought if I died, so be it. We all die someday.” Tears filled her eyes again as she continued, “But the idea of losing you terrified me.”
Allison’s voice was thick with emotion. “Sometimes I just can’t figure you out. One minute you’re gentle with me, the next you’re threatening me, like… like I’m just a pet to you.”
Her feelings tumbled out unchecked.
“Mr. Shaw, I swear I won’t trust you again.”
Yet, as Verruckt listened to Allison’s heartfelt outpouring, he couldn’t help but feel a twinge of satisfaction. He casually tilted her chin up. “What would it take for you to trust me?”
Allison’s cheeks flushed with anger, her lips pressed tightly together. She pouted, almost playfully. “Unless you can whip up a truth serum or literally open your chest to show me your heart.”
She had brought up the truth serum deliberately, knowing that it had been mentioned in the records of the test subjects. So, she played the part of being unreasonable during their argument, making her words seem less threatening.
“Otherwise, I will…”

“What will you do?” Verruckt prodded, unable to suppress a chuckle. “You seem a bit braver since last night.”
He smiled lazily, his fingers brushing lightly against Allison’s lips. “Here’s your truth serum. I’ll be your test subject if you want to try it.”
Verruckt was curious about his own true feelings as well.
Allison turned her head and spoke with a hint of defiance. “Anyway, I can’t read minds. The truth serum was just a joke. You said it existed, but I’m not stupid enough to believe that.”
Her offhand comment triggered something in Verruckt. “I’d never go so far as to deceive you with something like that,” he responded, his voice firm.
Verruckt then reached into the medical kit and pulled out a syringe. Without a second thought, he plunged it into his vein.
Allison froze, clearly taken aback. “Mr. Shaw, your hand…” She quickly snatched up the empty syringe, her eyes scanning it.
Sure enough, it was marked as truth serum. He truly was out of his mind — no question about it.
“This is the truth serum. You can ask me three questions,” he said calmly as he spread his arms wide, his expression completely relaxed. He stared directly into Allison’s eyes, curious to see what she would ask.
