Chapter 837:

But Allison’s eyes were quickly filled with anger, as though she’d been deceived once more. “You’re lying again. There’s no way you would use something like truth serum casually,” she said, her voice sharp. She glared at him, her gaze full of frustration.
“Just ask, and then you’ll know if it really is truth serum,” Verruckt replied calmly with a faint smile.
“Alright then, here’s my first question. Did you really plan to kill me tonight?”
“No, but if I had died, someone else would have taken care of you,” he answered plainly.
Allison was momentarily speechless. Well, that was unexpected. He was surprisingly straightforward.
Allison kept up her act, looking as though she was still sulking.
“Second question: Is there really an escape door in the lab?” she asked.
“There is,” he replied calmly.
Verruckt studied her closely, watching her face for any signs of change. “What, you want to escape?” he asked, though as soon as the words left his mouth, he realized that he already knew the answer. Of course, Alice wanted to get out. This place was terrifying, after all.

But deep down, he wanted her to stay with him forever.
“Why would I want to leave?” Allison let out a bitter laugh. “Well, I snuck in here all on my own, and I’m an orphan. If I left and went back to the slums, I’d rather just stay here,” she said, her tone dark. Her eyes were filled with tears.
“I just feel worthless,” she said quietly. “The researchers always talk about an escape route, but they act like I don’t deserve to know. It seems like even when death comes, I won’t have a say.”
Her voice cracked as she lowered her head. She quickly wiped her eyes and forced a smile.
“Thanks, Mr. Shaw, for telling me this. You might have a bad temper, but at least you don’t treat me like they do.” Allison’s act was flawless, every detail in place. Still, she wasn’t sure if he would fall for it.
“You sure are easily pleased,” he remarked.
Verruckt stood up and grabbed Allison’s wrist. “Come with me,” he ordered.
Allison stumbled when he yanked her to her feet. “Where are we going?” she asked.
“To the escape passage, of course. It’s nothing special,” he replied.
Hearing this, Allison finally felt some relief. She had been right again.
Verruckt led her into a quieter part of the lab. Once she regained her balance, she asked with curiosity, “Is this the escape passage? It looks fancy.”
